Nottingham allocated LMS Class 2 2-6-0 no 46444 is between the stations at Sutton Junction and Kirkby with a local train from Mansfield to Nottingham in the early 1960's.
This photograph was taken from a footpath which is now just off the eastern end of the platforms at the present Sutton Parkway station. This station would not be built until many years later. The fields on both side of the track are now covered with industrial units.

A beam of sunlight cuts through the smoke - from the just-lit fire - which was shrouding the cab of Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521 . With zero pressure on the boiler pressure gauge (top right) there was no chance to use the blower (the short lever under the regulator in the centre of the backhead) to increase the draught and clear it. Still, it added atmosphere to the footplate for a while and before long the pressure did come round - you only need about 10psi to get the blower working.
About a month after I started, my new combination is ready: an MAN TGX with a low-loader trailer carrying a steam locomotive. It represents a vehicle used by the British heavy haulage firm Allelys. Moving trains by road is one of their specialities.

Widząc pierwszy raz taki widok, masz wrażenie;ale duży ogród z zabawką w środku przypominająca małą kolejkę, a to prawdziwa kolej w małym wydaniu. Niegdyś wożąca ciężkie składy żelaza i granitu z okolicznych kopalń, a dziś żądnych wrażeń turystów. Jeden z tych małych gigantów Class 2-8-2 „River Esk” złapany pomiędzy przystankami w okolicy Eskdale w przepięknym regionie Wielkiej Brytanii tzw. Lake District w Cumbrii.
It used to transport heavy iron and granite bulks from the local mines, and today it is tourists who are eager to experience it. One of those little giants of Class 2-8-2 "River Esk" caught between stops in the Eskdale area in the beautiful region of Great Britain called Lake District in Cumbria.
