With the imminent replacement with 31/4 and hauled stock, the Inter-City Trans-Pennine Class 123 & 124 units were in their last days. I liked these units. They were comfortable and powerful and the Class 123 ex WR units rode extremely well.

A few weeks earlier and with a Class 124 DMCL at the buffer end a unit prepares for another run across the Pennines 4th May 1984

A pair of two car Gloucester Railway & Carriage Works class 100 DMU's rasp away from Marston Green station on their Journey to Rugby Midland, possibly the 4.20 PM. The train is passing over the road crossing. the gates were controlled by the signal box next to the footbridge

On the platform the lad porter has two heavy looking rolls, one on his shoulder the other tucked under his arm, they will have arrived on the DMU. The senior man, complete with his official cap, has the more important duty of watching the train go past.

The station was still gas lit, a lamp is visible both sides and a lovely lantern juts out over the building doorway, perhaps it is the camera angle but the OHL mast looks as if it directly in front of the door!

Resident Class 31 D5631 approaches Dead Man's Hill on the North Norfolk Railway, with the 1400 Sheringham to Holt demonstration goods train - 06/04/2024.

Another enjoyable day spent back up at the North Norfolk Railway, this time for the 60th Anniversary of Closure event.

This train was my number one photographic target of the day, as I had never seen the demonstration goods train in action before.

I didn't think I had much chance of a sunny shot to be honest, as the cloud cover proved to be very stubborn to clear on this visit to the North Norfolk coast. However, I did get a bit of weak sun at this spot, just as the train passed by.

Also on 1 February 1988, we see 50029 at Plymouth on a short van train; 50024 is in the background.

Colas Rail Class 37 Loco.

At Cambridge station today with an engineering train. Built by English Electric in 1963 and still going strong.

Also Cambridge was the hottest place in the UK this afternoon at 38.1C..

Model is my amazing friend Rob Woodcox.

This was taken during my trip to Detroit in July, we spent the afternoon exploring St.Agnes school and when we came to this large room with the chair in the corner, I knew that Rob and his wonderful outfit would be the perfect match for my concept.

I wish I could have spent a whole week in Detroit exploring all the amazing locations that we saw while we drove around the city.

Next time!

The Knox-class frigate USS Vreeland (FF-1068) is approaching the USS Mount Baker (AE-34) for a replenishment at sea. Seen operating in the Eastern Mediterranean as part of the US Sixth Fleet in the summer of 1982.

The 4,260-ton full load Knox-class were designed as anti-submarine frigates and 46 were built, starting in 1965. The last was decommissioned from US service in 1994. They were 133.5m long, with a beam of 14.25m and a draught of 7.6m. Two 1,200 psi boilers provided steam for a Westinghouse geared turbine on a single shaft, producing 35,000 shp and a top speed of 27 kt.

She is seen after modifications, having the so-called 'hurricane bow' which was designed to help reduce heavy seas coming in and damaging the weapon systems forward of the bridge.

The ships' primary armament was the eight-round Mk 112 ASROC launcher seen just in front of the bridge. One full reload for the launcher was available. In front of the ASROC launcher is a standard (for the time) single-barrel 5-inch/54-calibre Mk 42 gun. The ship also carried four fixed torpedo tubes for 324mm Mk 46 anti-submarine torpedoes.

On the stern, Vreeland had been upgraded with a Mk 25 eight-cell Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missile launcher. Just forward of that was a hangar and flight-deck for a Kaman SH-2 Sea Sprite LAMPS 1 helicopter.

Vreeland was launched in 1969 and stricken from the US Navy in 1992, going on to serve the Greek Navy for a further seven years.
