Not sure I got the idea of this new challenge... Was it really about drawing two or more strings on the same tile? Well. I used the strings #098 & #111 from tanglepatterns.com. The tangles are Flux (+Tipple), Sonnenband, Water Slide.

The challenge:

This week’s challenge is to fill the frame with your subject. In particular, you want to get close enough to your subject such that it takes up the entire image (or very nearly the entire image). You can fill the frame by getting very close to your subject, by using a telephoto lens, or both. The choice of subject is completely up to you. As always, creative or out of the box ideas are welcomed and encouraged!

My process:

What wasn’t my process this week? Sheesh. I was too much in my head and just not feeling it this week. This photo is my third attempt to “make something happen”. My first attempt was more of an abstract (ice bubbles in the nearby reservoir), but not really a subject per se and I started to overthink things, so I tried again with a close-up headshot of a doe in my front yard. Because it was a close-up with a very shallow DOF and because she was nearly still watching me, I attempted to focus stack four images. Turns out she _was_ moving and I so I had to resort to doing the focus stacking manually in Photoshop using masks. It took forever and then I wasn’t happy with it because she had been looking back over her shoulder at me and her butt was in the lower left corner of the photo pretty much ruining the composition. Trying to crop it out only made things worse. You’d have thought I could have figured this out before I spent all that time doing the focus stacking.

Soooo, this is my third attempt and I do love it, but it is the result of significant cropping. Even at 600mm and as close as I could get (10 feet – the minimum focal distance of the lens), I captured pretty much the entire bird. While that could have been considered a close-up in and of itself, I played around with cropping to see how I might “fill the frame” more creatively. I accidently came across this crop when I zoomed in on the photo. I really like the curve of the edge of the bird against the smooth background. The color of the background comes from the afternoon sun lighting up the dry grass on the hillside behind my house. I like the contrast between those warm tones and the blue feathers on the blue jay.

Lesson learned: Don’t overthink things. (Uh huh. Sure.)

Canon 5Div, Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Contemporary (at 600mm), 1/1600 sec, f/7.1, ISO 8000, RAW. Post-processing in DxO PhotoLab 3, LR and PS. (I know, I know – ridiculous ISO. I had my camera in Shutter Priority to freeze motion of the birds and there wasn’t much sun when I took this photo. Noise reduction was done in PhotoLab 3 before I did any other processing.)

Letraset has a new coloring challenge going. The line art is adorable and I couldn't resist.

Let me say, for the books, I just love Letraset's Pastel Beige Promarker color. It's a wonderful neutral that goes with almost any color. It's almost like Tofu (only it doesn't taste as good. As bad?) in that it adds body without masking the flavor of the colors you are using it with.

The Our Daily Challenge group has chosen Fast cars or Milk as the topic for today. As "fast cars" are for those who regard motor vehicles as toys rather than transportation, I chose milk.

Eii gente!

Beijos!

short of driving up their driveway, there was no way i was going to get a clear shot of all their flags. and i think they probably would have been a tad unhappy that i was trespassing.

Weekly Challenge #137: Portrait

I took the liberty to colorize this just a bit (it's another old jpeg) ... both the color and the b&w conversion were weak b-roll stuff ...but this seemed to help it some. In any case this was still the beginning of an awesome sunrise on the mighty Challenger from our camp at one of the Tapto Lakes

A rarity these days, a Mitsubishi Dodge Challenger. Must be another one there as this one was decent stripped of parts.

It's always a pleasure to watch this American muscle car. The red color adds mystique to its appearance. This was displayed by its owner at the Ballard Bluegrass festival motorcar show at Wylie, Texas

For the final challenge of the triathlon, you will be creating an outfit based on other contestants' photos. You must unify the designs with a limited budget of $11 and all you materials must be from either a post office, florist or hardware store. (My store was hardware)
