When I took a look at potential candidates for a helicopter entry, since I wanted to keep to 1:100 scale, I knew I needed something iconic and unmistakable (some ol' Bell would just look too generic at this scale). I always thought this a whacky aircraft, so figured, why not?
Built for the Helicopter Model category in this year's military contest.
I'd been chasing this one for ages, and finally caught-up with it at a very busy Jodrell Bank visitor centre. That's the radio telescope itself towering above in the background.
Anyway, its a VDL DB250/East Lancs 'decker.

A DAF SB3000/Van Hool Alizee employed on an unusual private hire along with W201 EAG that transported football supporters on a 'Ground Hop' from Macclesfield Town FC after their match against Newport County on to see Stockport County play Kidderminster Harriers at Edgeley Park, then on to the Hyde United v Tamworth United fixture, then back to Macclesfield - all for £5! + admission

Sept. 1967. This was probably in the Trang Bang (Trảng Bàng) or Ho Bo Woods area, and is how we got resupplied with ammo, equipment and C-rations while out in the boonies. Photo by John Michael Massey (Mike).
Until I put the finishing touches on her, I really didn't think this build could be competitive. Now, though, I think she may at least have a shot at the lower end of the trophy stand.

Its not often that I can combine my lifelong support for Macclesfield Town FC and 25 years of bus and coach photograph is a more satisfying way than this!
This elderly one-time London Transport open top MCW Metrobus provided the transport for the Macclesfield Town FC team's tour of the town after their 'against all odds' promotion back into the football league.
