This is a paper and bubble wrap andwich, folded like a tortillino. I plan to use this like a lost foam pattern. It is too cold to cast today.
Backyard metal casting-
This is a new project for me. I'm putting together a small soft-metal furnace so I can learn how to do my own castings. These are some pictures of the construction of the furnace itself. I'll have others later of the molds and various melts that I'll attempt. For me, soft metal means Aluminum and maybe copper.
I'll melt down scraps into ingots and then make some same molds of ...? I don't know yet.

This picture was taken on Spearfish Creek in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The water was clear and cold.
Stone and Iron. St Mary's Church in Birkenhead was designed by Architect Thomas Rickman in 1821 and features cast Iron tracery in the windows, thought to be by the ironmaster John Cragg. Ongoing restoration of the tracery includes removal of nearly 200 years of paint and rust to reveal the beauty of the original castings.
