Backyard metal casting-
This is a new project for me. I'm putting together a small soft-metal furnace so I can learn how to do my own castings. These are some pictures of the construction of the furnace itself. I'll have others later of the molds and various melts that I'll attempt. For me, soft metal means Aluminum and maybe copper.
I'll melt down scraps into ingots and then make some same molds of ...? I don't know yet.

This will be the central body of what will become Mark Jackson's ultrasonic drill. Mark got the design from NASA. Once completed it should be capable of drilling holes in really hard stuff like gemstones. After tapping both ends Ed used a form tool to smooth the contours of this aluminum casting that Mark poured at his shop.
