• The furan resin sand casting process is to use self-hardening sand. After burning the coating, the surface is very hard and firm.
• Product castings produced from this process has very good surface quality, and is free of casting defects. So the process is applied to manufacturing complex castings and good dimensional tolerance.

This is the casting date of the crankcase. Made in Wolverhampton. I imagine they would have had some letters and numbers much like printing type which would have been pressed into the sand of the mould. The engine therefore dates from 15th September 1928.
Metal casting demo at TechShop Portland Grand Opening. Bud is casting an angle block and some flamethrower handles out of aluminum. We used the largest furnace which is capable of melting cast iron.
