Installation of saturated buffer in Story County, Iowa, on land farmed by Justin Hanson. A line of tile is installed parallel to the stream. When water from field tile is diverted to this tile from the water control structure that lies within a seeded buffer, the soil below becomes saturated. The roots and plant uptake then denitrify the water.

From 1988 to 1994 the Artsakh Liberation War tormented the region of Nagorno-Karabakh. On the verge of the collapse of the Soviet Union this grim conflict between ethnic Azeris and Armenians aroused, the Armenian side claiming independence for the area.
While Nagorno-Karabakh enjoys independent status now it's technically still a part of Azerbaijan. It's backed by Armenia though and the completely destroyed and abandoned city of Agdam still serves as buffer zone just behind the ceasefire-line.
