Installation of saturated buffer in Story County, Iowa, on land farmed by Justin Hanson. A water control structure is a key component; it either diverts water from field tile to the perforated tile that runs parallel to the stream--which saturates the buffer-- or allows water to bypass the buffer, depending on how many panels are inserted into the structure to divert flow.

The old trackbed of the Waverley route looking south from the buffer stops at Tweedbank towards Melrose (a mere 2 miles away) where the current line should have gone to (the difficulty being that though the old station & platform there still exist the trackbed is now under a re-aligned Melrose bypass) & thence on to Hawick, the ultimate destination (though some want to complete the old route back to Carlisle - unlikely.)

And still, all San Joaquins are running with buffer cars to trigger crossings. Several look presentable, running with a Viewliner baggage or two, this set however with a Comet and Horizon Cafe car looks a bit tacky.

Something rather special about those old steam trains...

Added a light 5 km buffer around the antennas.

...at the next block, this person saw the green square and the bike marking, realized their error, and returned to the left lane.

Taking a little breather, we admired the "buffer garden" – a recent article explained that the garden just outside the windows surrounding Noma create a "buffer zone" between the diners and gawking tourists.

Volunteers helped restore this riparian buffer in the park with large rocks and native plants.

Post Sampson Flat Fire revegetation planting, undertaken as part of the City of Playford's Buffers to Bushland rural revegetation scheme, Saturday July 25th, 2015.

Two properties that have been part of the scheme for a number of years and that were affected by the fire have been chosen for targetted volunteer plantings of about 1000 local-native tubestock plants each.

Thanks to all who helped out on the day, and particularly to Playford Greening and Landcare volunteers for their supervisory roles.

Just another couple takes of the same general idea. Different timings, different areas lit by the LED light.

Buffer at Looe station

A buffer consisting of an iron plate and a spring absorbs the compressive forces and shocks that occur during braking or shunting, and transfers them to the vehicle body or bottom frame of the railway vehicle.
