As soon as I saw my daughter's fun braids, I knew I had to try a high key portrait inspired by those iconic Apple iPod silhouette ads.
Lighting was an SB-600 though a 24 inch softbox to camera right, a white reflector to camera left and an LP120 on the background.
I took this photo in January, but thought it would be perfect for this week's Strobist Sundays theme, "iconic".
I've started a photography blog. You can check it out at

World Youth Day has arrived in Sydney, Australia. It is anticipated that 150,000 Catholic pilgrims will descend on this fair city to celebrate their religion culminating in a mass by Pope Benedict at Randwick Race Course. A young woman with braids
This picture isn't as clear as I'd like it to be, because I had to take it while walking. But I think you can almost tell that these ladies' braids aren't just standard braids of hair. All of their hair is braided into very small braids, then the small braids are put into big braids. I can't imagine how long it must take to do this. In addition, you can see here how they wear their cloaks off the right shoulder when they get hot. I was told that this is because Buddha was supposed to have been born out of his mother's right armpit, so if they're going to take off only half of the coat, they take off the right half.
