I made this quilt using a jellyroll that my husband gave me for Christmas a couple of years ago. He was so proud that he gave me fabric since he knew nothing about it at the time.
One of our girls belongs to a Ukranian Dance club. A couple of times a year they put on a big public performance: in preparation the ladies-who-know-how spend hours doing their thing.
Somebody took some time on this horse’s braids. And I’m endlessly fascinated by the bits of these photographs that are sharp and bits that are not. Between the minimum depth of field and the motion I’m never quite certain what causes the fuzzy parts. You’re always shooting on the edge at indoor rodeos. Minimum f-stop, minimum shutter speed and minimum ISO.

The braids are actually sewn into the hair, which is tightly plaited in cornrows onto the head. The things women do to look good!
This is a stitched together panoramic view from up the Braid Hills which shows just about most of the centre, north and east of Edinburgh and then on to East Lothian with Musselburgh, Cockenzie power station, North Berwick and the Bass Rock.
