Shot taken for Saturday Self Challenge 04/07/2026 -- WAVY .
Had to put the thinking head on for this week's challenge , for a while the only " Wavy " things I could think of for a while was my old school badge , the logo found on the bonnet of a Moggie Minor and the logo of the local water company - none of which were readily available to photograph !!
Looking around the living room I spotted a hand made fabric doll with lots of Ric-Rac braiding on it - oops , I have used that shot before for a SSC picture ( as seen in the first comment box ) . However , with carte blanch to rummage in my wife's fabric trim storage I found a few reels and a bundle of Ric-Rac braiding . Placed in the pop studio box and a few shots grabbed - I did get the tripod out but never used it in the end , so a hand held shot pretty much SOOC !!
As to the title , well for a sight & sound it is Cinderella ----

“When you find different materials, you want to tell different stories.” With this deceptively simple assertion, Markham-based, Kurdish-born artist Roda Medhat situates material not merely as a medium but a narrative engine. Roda’s work operates in the fertile space where craft, memory, and digital fabrication intersect, and where materials such as soft wool, buoyant inflatable vinyl, and glowing neon each carry their own cultural meanings. The Art Gallery of Burlington’s (AGB) winter 2026 season marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in a public institution, offering a sensory playground where textiles and sculptures act as storytellers.
As someone who lived between cultures, migrating at a young age, Roda’s practice emerged from the intersections of generation and place. Roda is interested in how diasporic memory operates, how war and media spectacle shape collective memory, and how to reclaim erased or overlooked narratives by folding, deflating, and breaking them. Roda draws from a constellation of sources from archival texts to children’s stories and vernacular architecture to the geometric language of West Asian and Kurdish textiles. In this way, his works become speculative archives, weaving forgotten or oversimplified histories into forms that are pliant, luminous, and resolutely alive.
Things I Can Fold, Deflate, and Break splits the gallery in thirds, diving into distant modes of light, sound and movement, resulting in a unified environment in which material and narrative coexist and merge through one another. Flickering lights, low hums from inflatable fans, and tactile shifts from wool to plastic produce a multisensory choreography that guides the viewer through Roda’s world.
The exhibition title, simple and playful, serves as a reflection of how the space itself changed with Roda’s work – folding, deflating / inflating, and bending materials – these gestures extend beyond physical manipulation as they mirror the ways he reshapes narrative itself. Through repositioning and replanting source material, teasing apart small elements and details, Roda allows stories to fold into one another (both materially and metaphorically), braiding their meanings back again into the larger plot.

Looking down over Skeiðarársandur, a vast plain of black sand and ash comes into view. As the well-defined river braids near the sandy beaches along the coast of Southern Iceland, their form becomes less defined. At the mercy of the strong winds and flat beaches, the braids get washed out.

On my solo walk on the FLICKRPHOTOWALK I was lucky enough to find lots of textures in a famous castle called Marsvinsholms slott here in Ystad, Skåne, Sweden.
This caught my eye particularly since everything was an old kind of lamp with beautiful details, like these braids. You can see they are old but at the same time so well kept.

The sun is finally rising above the clouds hanging over the horizon and now casting some nice golden light on this beautiful Wrybill at Lake Ellesmere.
The wrybill is a small pale plover which breeds only in braided rivers of the South Island. It is the only bird in the world with a laterally-curved bill (always curved to the right), which it uses to reach insect larvae under rounded riverbed stones. Wrybills are completely dependent on braided rivers for breeding; all their life stages are predominantly grey, and highly cryptic among the greywacke shingle of the riverbeds.
The wrybill is an internal migrant. After breeding, almost the entire population migrates north to winter in the harbours of the northern North Island, notably the Firth of Thames and Manukau Harbour.
It's a little grainy (ISO 1600 seems to be always that way with this camera), but I liked it.
Oh, and by the way - hair, once again, not by me, but by Miss Jaya. Miss Jaya is allowed to do very time-consuming things with Katie's hair, bless her.
The swollen waters of Upper McCord creek gracefully part and plunge over a basalt ledge in the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon.
After celebrating family at Thanksgiving by consuming a significant amount of seasonal home-cooked food together, we felt the need to shake the bones and wander for a bit in the woods. It rained over an inch the previous day and the forest smelled of it. Ancient fungal waftings and the quiet growth of bryophytes, with tall cedar overseeing affairs.
Technical notes: Hand-held, elbows wedged against torso, breath held. Color me impressed with the image stabilization hardware in modern lenses!

We came across a small group of men on our way to visit a village near Ramathra in Rajasthan. They were ostensibly making braid, but I think it was their equivalent to our knit & bitch sessions! We stayed here www.ramathrafort.com/ It was certainly way off the beaten track, and quite an experience.
One of the few places to find braided rivers is the South Island of New Zealand.
A river will meander or braid depending on how quickly the river banks erodes. A river with cohesive banks that are resistant to erosion will form narrow, deep, meandering channels, whereas a river with highly erodible banks will form wide, shallow channels, inhibiting helical flow and resulting in the formation of braided channels.
Sometimes these rivers can change from meandering streams to a raging river the total width of the river bed.This is the Waimakariri River.
These are the braided rivers that feed off the glaciers that feed Lake Wakatipu here on the South Island of New Zealand. It's pretty fun to go jet boating around here... just up there where the lake begins is where Glenorchy is and just beyond is one of my favorite yoga and meditation retreats called Aro Ha.
A person, who values the beauty of nature and ambient in the world, far richer and happier than those, who did not notices this.
