I'm not certain of the date here - I had this engine on this train (1M76, 16:13 Cambridge - Birmingham or its 1986/1987 timetable incarnation, the 16:11, 1M39) six times in eight months! Most probably 21/05/87 or 03/08/87 but, although indistinct, the shadows suggest nearer mid-summer, so I'll opt for the former, which was a Thursday.
'439 wasn't one of my favourites around that time, the photo being of interest due to the presence of two Cambridge legends. The driver is notorious maniac Sid Pauley who was always good for a cab-ride and a liberal interpretation of line speeds! The other is guard George Grass - a very crank friendly chap. A pleasure to meet either of them out on the bash.
1960/07/07.R7561. The E17s comprised a class of 38 1-Do-1 electric locomotives and they had a lifespan of 52 years; the first was delivered in 1928 and the last was withdrawn in 1980.
This is E17 107 at Stuttgart Hbf shed on the 7th July, 1960 when it was photographed by E.A.S.Cotton.
Two of these locos survived into preservation and one of them, E17 113, is at the Eisenbahn Museum at Neustadt an der Weinstraße.

Norwich allocated Cravens class 105 dmu E53365 is seen right up at the blocks at Sheringham, about to form a Norwich service, on what is now know as the "Bittern Line".
The scene here has changed, and for the good for once, after a period of 36 years the link to the North Norfolk Rly, over the road was reinstated on the 11th March 2010, so trains can now pass right through this scene.

The Bury Standard 4 Group had their engine BR 4MT 2-6-4T No.80097 on display to garner more public support at the East Lancashire Railway Autumn Steam Gala. No.80097 was still under over-haul but now at least we could see the light at the end of the tunnel as the boiler had just been returned. There would still be a lot more twists and turns, and it would be another year before No.80097 would steam again. I captured this image on Platform One at Bury Bolton Street on the 14th October 2017.
