This appeared to be an abandoned border post in the Alai region of southern Kyrgyzstan on what has been dubbed the New Silk Road.

I ALWAYS cry leaving nebraska. no matter the method -- train (that's
never happened), plane, car, bus -- it's all horrible to be leaving

The 22nd December 2009 was the very last day of trading for Borders Bookshop in the UK. This is the Oxford Branch. The books that remained on sale were at 90% off.
However, it appears that many Publishers had put in a 'Legal Title' claim to prevent many books from being included in the Borders Liquidation sale after 17th December 2009 ~ publishers such as Harper Collins, Virago, Orion and others. The Legal Title claim meant for example that all Ian Rankin, Agatha Christie and works by many authors had to be removed from the shelves and not included in the sale. So quite simply by the last day what was on offer was really quite limited. It would also explain why the shelves so dramatically emptied.

Smoke billows from a targeted location in the northern Gaza Strip following an Israeli air raid, as seen from the Israeli-Gaza border on December 30, 2008. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said today that the bombardment of Hamas targets in Gaza so far was "the first of several stages" approved by the Jewish state's security cabinet. The blitz has killed at least 360 Palestinians and wounded 1,690, according to medics. At least 57 of the dead are civilians, according to the UN. AFP PHOTO/JACK GUEZ .
