This is what the U.S./Mexico border looks like where the San Pedro River flows into Arizona. The plan is to drag huge metal vehicle barriers in here during the non-rainy season, and drag them back out during monsoons. We're assured this will have "No Significant Impact."

On 4 February, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao inaugurated the first Integrated Border Post (IBP) at Batugade, Bobonaro District. President Ramos-Horta, Minister of Finance Pires, Minister for Tourism and Industry Alves, the Indonesian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, and UNMIT SRSG Haq and UN Police Commissioner Carrilho attended, amongst others. The facility supports the legitimate cross border movement of people and goods for tourism, commercial and community links. The IBP consists of several border control agencies, including immigration, customs, quarantine, border police, agriculture, foreign affairs and transport. Approximately 400 guests attended the event. Photo by UNMIT/Martine Perret. 4 February 2012.

Photo © Elizabeth Gerdeman. My intention with this action is to highlight the beauty of culture and how nevertheless the difficulties Armenian culture remained very strong, so what remains of a flag is simply the real essence of culture, the sweetness of it. Flag belongs to politics and the real importance belongs to traditions and culture what people share and not what people struggles or fight for.
With this action I wanted to symbolically melt the borders away, leaving only the sweetness and the beauty of humanity, in this particular case, Armenia.
The shirt is what remains of the action which I intend to repeat in many other countries.
zetor scarf from jatta.
my notes on yarn and needles are over on ravelry.
i am very pleased with the yarn and the finished object. i've worn it a couple of times already.
i got bored knitting it. the pattern is the same throughout, 'til the border.
IF i knit this again, someday, i will make it smaller. i prefer knitting shawl patterns that transition, like swallowtail.

The Naco Border Station/U.S. Customhouse is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under criterion “a” for its role in Politics and Government as a customhouse, where U.S. policies for international political and economic relations have been directly implemented since 1902. It is also eligible under criterion "c", significant as an outstanding example of Pueblo Revival architecture. Compared to other buildings constructed in the southwestern United States, in the same style and time, and by the same agency, the Naco Border Station is an unusually fine example of artistry. The Period of Significance dates from 1936, the date of construction of the existing customhouse in Naco, through 1940, which reflects the end of the historic period, as defined by the National Register.
