Landsdowne Square, on the border between Knightsbridge and Belgravia is situated in the vicinity of both Hyde Park to the North and Belgrave square to teh Southeast.

Until the WWII it was an elegant residential square lived in by aristocracy attracted by the proximity to Buckingham Palace. After the second world war the architectural unity of this square completely changed due to uncontrolled development which allowed for the demolition of the 19th century period houses, The North and East side were completely demolished to make room for a range of unremarkable buildings of the 1060's and 1970's which are seen in this picture to the right (East) and at the back (North where the tower block is a hotel)

the Georgian building to the right is on the corner with Motcombe St and is built around 1800's,

The trees seen in the picture belong to the private residents gardens in the Square and to the left one can just see the Southwest corner of the square still preserving the original early 19th c buildings century buildings.

Currently the area is much favoured by residents from the Middle East wh attracte dthe opening of a multifarious series of oriental cafes and restaurants with ethnic food.

This was as far as we were allowed, the western shore of river Thanlyin. About 30km further east is the border to Thailand. The land east of the river is not controlled by the government, but by armed Kayah parties. Their income has partly been smuggling of timber, and much if not all of their forest is today destroyed. I have literally thousands of photos from this trip. If any one wants more of a particular vehicle, let me know.

This is day 2, trip along the Border Track - Dog Fence.

This must be one of the best sand tracks to be found in Victoria/South Australia. It follows the border from near Pinnaroo right down to near the Melbourne - Adelaide hwy.

This track has very large sand hills to get over. Most of these hills have tracks to get around them if you are not able to get over them. Some of these hills are so extreme there's no way anyone will get over them, so this track can very easily be classed as a 'Difficult' track.

Very Important. Check with the SA National Parks and Reserves for information on when the track is closed, and what direction you need to go in.

The track is about 107km. Allow a full day to make this trip. For a more enjoyable weekend, take your time and camp anywhere along the track. Stop in or camp at Red Bluff - scenic red sandstone hill.

(This is where we stopped). Dress warm though as it gets hot in the day, freezing at night.

Make sure you pack all your recovery gear, and travel in a group with other 4wd's. (We had to recover 2 vehicles).

Check the depths of the mud holes. Some for us were over 1 meter deep. Watch out for the holes towards the end, they are really deep!

Momentum is your friend on the sand dunes. We used 15psi tyre pressures. (Try the sand dunes 3x, if you fail, take the chicken path)

We ended up getting lost around the supposed turnoff to red bluff, that according to the maps was "well signposted".

We ended up with broken eggs and bottles.

This is mostly a sandy track with dunes and provides you with a remote location for testing self and equipment without travelling deeper into the outback.

The environment is typical Victorian desert – Mallee country. Expect some scratching from Mallee scrub particularly in the Wyperfeld section and some parts of the Northern Border Track may be overgrown. Soft sand is to be found on the tracks as well as corrugations and hard gravel.

The border track is steeped in history largely due to the dispute which arose from the original survey completed between 1847 and 1850. The result is that the border is actually sighted some 3kms too far West. A fascinating account of this can be obtained from John Deckert at Westprint Heritage Maps if you manage to visit whilst in Nhill.

There is an abundance of wildlife to enjoy whilst undertaking this trip, so watch out for Emu and Kangaroo. Aboriginal rock holes can be found close to the junction with South Bore Track.

We were lucky to reach the top speed of 40 kms/hr.

The American Falls is one of three waterfalls that together are known as Niagara Falls on the Niagara River along the Canada-U.S. border. Unlike the much larger Horseshoe Falls, of which two-thirds of the falls is located in Ontario, Canada and one-third in New York State, United States, the American Falls is completely within the U.S. state of New York.

The falls receive approximately 10% of the flow from Niagara River, with most of the rest going over Horseshoe Falls, from which it is separated by Goat Island. It has a straight line crest width of about 830 feet (250 m). If measured along the jagged lip of the falls, the crest is about 950 feet (290 m) long. The torrent of water passing over the crest of the falls is about 2 feet (0.61 m) deep.

The height of the American Falls ranges between 70 to 110 feet (21–34 m). This measurement is taken from the top of the Falls to top of the rock pile (talus). The height of the Falls from the top of the Falls to the river is 188 feet (57 m).

It's August 24, 2007, and I'm driving back to Saint Paul, MN from visiting my mom in Ontario. On the way south from Sauble Beach I drove into a truly horrific rainstorm, one of the most violent I've ever experienced. I thought I was sure to go off the road or have the car cut out at any moment ... but somehow neither happened, and I made it to the border.

Of course, like a complete nitwit I had my camera at hand and I would occasionally snap pictures! While driving through a maelstrom! This is the last in that set; a rainy-windshield view of the Sarnia side of the US-American border as I approached it. I decided at this point that I should finally put the camera down. I can handle Mother Nature, but not Homeland Security!
