Normal Pearl Bordered are colourful ..orange and black ..this one is known as an ''aberration'' --- ( a deviation from the norm ) and some of these were highly prized by collectors in the past.... information I received said '' the aberant form in your photograph is known as pallida ( this should be in italics ) and is
only known to occur in males. There is a picture of this form in 'The Butterflies of Britain and Ireland' by Jeremy Thomas,published by Dorling Kindersley 1991. ISBN 0-
86318-591-6. The aberant form presumably occurs when numbers are particularly high!! ''
UK Border Agency Immigration Enforcement van..... An unusual addition to my collection, but still technically Law Enforcement/Police. Seen quite a few of these about, makes a change from the boring plain dark blue! Has a small amber light bar for use at ports and airports, along with a single spotlight.
I patronized this one enough times(including when I briefly attended Wright), so it was sad to see this one go. An HH Gregg has now opened in this space, as of a month or 2 ago. And once upon a time(till whenever all their store liquidated, I can't remember the year), this was the site of a Service Merchandise store.
Still remember how depressing it was, the last time I was here(pre-liquidation), and noticing how scaled back their music selection had become, and that the listening stations had been removed. This was one of several Borders where I did a lot of CD sampling, back in the day. My biggest photography regret here was that I didn't get a pic of the book display that some employees had set up at the customer service desk, since I was being very undercover with my pics here. You'll see later at Oak Brook, I did the opposite, and did a LOT of pics there.

Nymans has been a National Trust property since 1953 with a 30 acre garden which was created over nearly three-quarters of a century from 1885 by Ludwig Messel and his son Leonard. During this time they assembled a remarkable collection of trees, shrubs and plants from all over the world. The work of father and son was continued by the Earl and Countess of Rosse who nurtured and enriched the garden. It is laid out in a series of outdoor rooms; the different levels of the garden are connected with stone steps or grassy slopes. The oldest part of Nymans is the wall garden reached through a decorative archway with magnificent herbaceous borders intersected with an ornate Italian fountain and formal topiary yews.
Today the ruined house still provides a romantic background for the garden and the remaining Messel Family rooms are open to the public. In total three generations of the Messel family have lived at Nymans, from the late 1800's until 1947 when the house was tragically destroyed by fire. Subsequently the surviving rooms were still used, occasionally to entertain friends and as a base from which to run the garden.

The forecast was right on this occassion so my trip to Wyre Forest proved worthwhile.
The main target was pearl-bordered fritillaries and there were a great deal around. Very few other butterflies were seen - 4 other species and 8 butterflies in total!
I have never had a good ventral photo of a pearl-bordered fritillary and one was well perched in the shade. However it was surrounded by people who had put it there taking huge number of photos, so I only took a few and none were fully sharp unfortunately.

Need I say the clicking of needles was damn near deafening at times!

The picture the border guards made me take to test the "zoom" of my lens, during my 1.5 hour 'detention' at the border.
They had just finished kicking out all the journalists a couple weeks before, so they were not happy to see my kit. But I think my lousy French, business cards, and tourist photos convinced them.
Refresh were approached to come up with a new design for the existing Borders College website. Our main objective was to reorganise existing content and site navigation to come up with a modern and fresh website that is easy to navigate and update. Borders College have made a design decision and their new website will be online in the near future.
