The other side of the wall that divides one of the richest cities in the USA
and one of the most troubled cities in Mexico. The story of people that were
deported from the USA after living there for half of their lives and leave their
wives and children behind, choosing to live a marginal life in Tijuana in
hoping to make it back one day. No documents, no communication with their families in the USA.
The Border Patrol Foundation held its 7th Annual Border Patrol Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC.
The forecast was right on this occassion so my trip to Wyre Forest proved worthwhile.
The main target was pearl-bordered fritillaries and there were a great deal around. Very few other butterflies were seen - 4 other species and 8 butterflies in total!
I have never had a good ventral photo of a pearl-bordered fritillary and one was well perched in the shade. However it was surrounded by people who had put it there taking huge number of photos, so I only took a few and none were fully sharp unfortunately.

The picture the border guards made me take to test the "zoom" of my lens, during my 1.5 hour 'detention' at the border.
They had just finished kicking out all the journalists a couple weeks before, so they were not happy to see my kit. But I think my lousy French, business cards, and tourist photos convinced them.
Refresh were approached to come up with a new design for the existing Borders College website. Our main objective was to reorganise existing content and site navigation to come up with a modern and fresh website that is easy to navigate and update. Borders College have made a design decision and their new website will be online in the near future.

I've been playing with my Bamboo and doodle borders this morning. I have wanted to create my own doodle borders for photos for a long time and a friend that is a photographer gave me a bit of a nudge when we talked recently. I have fun stretching my skills and learning how to make new things. This was a stretch, but now I feel pretty confident in doing it. I can't wait to think of some new ideas to give a go. I definitely still have a lot to learn about making these all come together and doing exactly what I want. I love having a cute clipping mask for future photos, though!

I've always been intrigued by this store during my commutes to the Outer Banks, but, if I'm not mistaken, I've never actually stopped in here. So while I was out today I figured it was finally time to see what the Border Station has to offer! The building literally sits on the NC/VA state line, which is represented by blue and red tiles running diagonally across the floor, and is technically split into two sections for each state. The Virginia side seen in this photo houses most of the typical convenience store products, including some food stuff from Stuckey's, plus their own lottery program and those weird skill games I've seen in various places in the state recently. Meanwhile, the North Carolina side houses a walk-in tobacco shop, the Mister Jim's restaurant, their own lottery program, some beach-related goods, and fireworks. It’s a pretty unique place for what would otherwise be a tourist trap!
Our border crossing was in Busia, where we arrived in the afternoon, after a brief stop in Nakuru and a quick lunch in Kisumu. We crossed the African Rift Valley and saw an arm of Lake Victoria in Kisumu. In Busia, we had to hand over our travel documents to both Kenyan and Ugandan authorities, and I had to pay 50 USD for a tourist visa.
