is what they call it, the two students, Catherine Sawyers and Halley Martin, at the High School who initiated and run this project:
“The Blessing Box is for anyone who is hungry,” explained Sawyers. “It’s for the hungry and homeless in Mount Airy.”
>>Blessing Boxes, which have been popping up across the country, are similar to the Little Free Libraries promoting reading, also small structures where the public is invited to take a book/share a book. Instead of food for the mind in the form of the printed word, a Blessing Box provides nourishment for one’s physical well-being. <<
And here the text on the box reads,: “Take what you need — leave what you can.”
Both Sawyers and Martin are officers with their school’s Interact Club, a student-led group that provides youths with opportunities to organize community service projects in addition to participating in international service projects.
The two mobilized club members and other classmates to develop the Blessing Box, which required finding a space at Mount Airy High to store food for gradual placement in the box. Local businessman Burke Robertson donated shelves for the small room identified.
The program has been running for several months now. What a wonderful service project by the students at the school!

2008 has been crazy wonderful.
I think I traveled more than I should for a year, but I'm not one to complain.
Everybody in my family is safe and in good health.
I feel very much blessed. I felt loved.

p.s. Santa pulled through for me. First post shot from my new Nikon d90. I'm a bit overwhelmed --- coming from a d40. The new cam seems like a very serious camera. I'm not sure if I can live up to all its seriousness. Haha!

Thrown and fired by a dear friend and gifted to me when I left Montana in 2005 (for an adventure in WA state), it is now my blessing bowl. It holds sea shells from Rhode Island (that belonged to my mother) and River Rocks from Montana that belong to the Earth, and floating candles that light up the deep....for me.
From my childhood onward my parents have taught me to walk crossing all the difficulties holding my hand. Today also I can't proceed in life with out their blessing & guidance. Your lovable hands are most important to me.

This is the dress that my oldest daughter wore when she was blessed...about 1 month after she was born. It's was also worn by my sister almost 30 years ago.

My newest grand-daughter, after a hard 36 weeks and very much a blessing a 5lb 15 oz girl.
Today its Buddha Jayanti (Buddha's birthday). I went to the Swayambhunath temple to shoot the occasion.
