Thank you for watching :-)
Created with Blender.
This all serves a purpose, as I want to make something particular in Blender but first I have some considerable learning to do.
It is pretty awesome that this is free software.
Nothing like a steep learning curve that has you almost vertical. More than a handful of false starts but with very little determent. Got to animate it next. I love this! And I can only get better!

Advanced script for Blender is now available on Mecabricks.
Some of the new features include:
+ Real bevels
+ Scratches, fingerprints, real roughness
+ Stickers are automatically detected and have a separate material (only for parts with stickers recently added in Mecabricks)
+ Works with Filmic-blender

A small practice in digital LEGO design, posing, rendering and postprocessing.
Made in Lego Digital Designer, exported to Blender via Mecabricks.
100% low poly, made and rendered in Eevee (Blender) (with viewport render).
Firing a phaser is fairly easy to make: set up a bezier curve, apply a physical constraint to a cylinder to follow the curve, and insert the necessary keyframes in the timeline.
For the "world" shader I used a star map from NASA (credits: NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Scientific Visualization Studio. Constellation figures based on those developed for the IAU by Alan MacRobert of Sky and Telescope magazine (Roger Sinnott and Rick Fienberg)).)
Can you spot the Big Dipper?
It took me a while to figure out how to set this up. In the world sharder editor: use a texture coordinate - mapping - environment texture. Connect the "camera" of the texture coordinate to the vector of the mapping node and in the scale options of the mapping node, set X and Y to 3 (leave Z at 1).
Connect the "color out" of the environment texture to a "RGB to BW" node, and feed this into a RGB curve node. Then drag this curve down to get rid of all the noise.
Connect the output of the RGB curve node to the color of the background node and connect the latter to the surface of the world output, as usual.

The instant camera is a type of camera which uses self-developing film to create a chemically developed print shortly after taking the picture. Polaroid Corporation pioneered (and patented) consumer friendly instant cameras and film, and were followed by various other manufacturers.

I'm making an animation that requires a 360 panorma. (The balls won't be in it) It's very early days but here I have added a foreground rock using a displacement filter on a mesh with texture mapping, (they're mostly modeled with white noise but I also used a bump map and an actual photo of rocks to produce a displacement) I'm pretty chuffed with the rockiness of the rocks. I also realised my 360 background was not correctly mapped but it now shows the whole sky which is one I made up in photoshop.
Still haven't chosen if the camera view will be using perspective or equirectangular view, both have appeal. Perspective view is like the way things distort in google street view as you look around. It sort of reflects what happens in your eyes, but your mind doesn't pyschologically perceive it that way in real life.
An equirectangular camera view makes things feel like they are not distorting, which is closer to what you feel when you look around, but probably not the truth technically in terms of parallax and all that.
Whatever, it is very interesting to note that the way we perceive the 'real' world, is just that. A perception.
Now I might be ready to start modelling the foreground.
You will find something more in woods than in books.
Trees and stones will teach you that which you can never learn from masters.
