Haven't done any macro in a while so thought i'd crack out my 30mm macro. It's been collecting dust for a while.
My first attempt at a space render. I'm not quite as good as Geoplex... Welp, I hope it'll be better the next time :-/

using QGIS, GIMP and Blender to create the illusion of a copy-paste landscape
[1] use QGIS to bring up the OS Open Data tile, Google Earth satellite imagery and heightmap, and export to PNG
[2] use GIMP to clip the images to the DEM extent
[3] made the heightmap and satellite imagery seamless (this blends image edges to make it possible to tile them without visible joins)
[4] in Blender, used the Array modifier to show a 6x6 grid of the textured and displaced mesh. Used compositing to mix the mist path with the original image to produce depth-based fog.
Tiled DEMs are a bit low-res, this is to keep the face count down to something my laptop can cope with :)
Nov. 27, 2015: Snowman 2013. In photogene used morning glory preset. In brushstrokes used S5. In Stackables used happiness. In Blender combined last two steps in color mode 50%. In PhotoCopier used Botticelli with 0 color. In Lightleaker used LL28 60%. In Formulas used Ink Splatter Border.
