Mrs D’s ‘Dicentra Spectabilis’ just coming into bloom in the last few days. Known as ‘Bleeding Heart’ for obvious reasons, though the colours of this plant can vary from a deeper carmine to white (the Alba variety).

Today was my first 'photo excursion' into our back yard. I noticed these bleeding hearts the other day and wanted to catch them before they were gone

Bleeding heart "alba" (Dicentra spectabilis) -- another toxic garden plant.
I got in trouble with the tourguide for climbing over a hedge into the flowerbed to get this shot. I was annoyed because I had only just begun to shoot them -- I only got two shots before she shooed me back over the hedge. Oh well. Honestly, couldn't they have planted them closer to the path? :)

I've been to the Chicago Botanic Garden enough now that when they clean up some areas, move plants around, it takes me by surprise. The area these white bleeding heart are in used to have many of the pink variety, but many have been removed. Not sure why. Thankfully, these white ones are still in their place.
