Kristine and I had a bit of a lens swap going on. She was trying my 17-40 and I was trying her 10-22. We hiked out to Fairy Falls and we had fun hiking in and out of the snow squals. But the real action was when the hike was nearly over and the storm clouds were gathering in the Central Plateau to the East of Grand Prismatic Spring.
This was a bit of an impromptu shoot at The Gardens at The Bay of Fires, on the North-East coast of Tasmania.
We camped a few beaches down overnight, and rushed there just before dawn with no real idea what was there.
Still, though I would like to spend more time there, I am happy with these few shots.

Also known as Banded Kukri Snake, or Half-keeled kukri snake
They are not dangerous to humans, though. Bites by some species have been reported to bleed excessively, suggesting presence of anticoagulants in the Duvernoy's gland secretions. Species of Oligodon are mostly nocturnal, and live on the floor of mature forests.
The common name of the genus comes from the kukri, a distinctively shaped Nepalese knife, which is similar in shape to the broad, flattened, curved hind teeth of Oligodon species. These teeth are specially adapted for their main diet of eggs; the teeth cut open eggs as they are being swallowed by the snake, allowing for easier digestion.
Distribution: Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, and Java.
Habitat: It inhabits lowland mature secondary forest and is nocturnal. Quite secretive in habits, remaining largely concealed under leaf litter, fallen trees (log) and other forest floor debris.

As I mentioned from my previous shot, it's too busy at the top of the coit tower on Sat night. This was taken from the top of Filbert Street, just below the Coit Tower. I was able to catch the mysterious SF fog to roll by for another romantic shoot of the City by the Bay. Hope you like it!!

It was interesting to try this chalk technique. I'm not entirely satisfied with my first outing with this technique, but I think with some practice I might be able to get the hang of the erasing/masking technique to make the font look like chalk. I liked how I got it to look like there was chalk dust on the board behind the writing, but I think the letters are too "intact" to look like chalk. The contact sheet is an easy way to put together a collage. I had used it before but by watching Kim's tutorial, I picked up a few hints to make it easy-peasy.

Horticulture book, photocopied pages from an 1800's Chemistry book, the beginning of a roll of double sided tape, a fruit sticker, a bit of wallpaper sample, a piece of red paper that I picked up in the parking lot and have been saving for over a year, the tag from an antique sign we purchased, a photo envelope and a map bit leftover from another project....whew....
Finsihed all the parts, need to put her together tonight and embroider her zombie parts, muwahahaha!

Bit of a late shift tonight as I elected to forego my annual appointment with Eurovision to help Dave out with a job installing a wireless network for our friends at Palmerston.
I don't think it counts as 'a foreigner' if you don't get paid, so I'll call it a good deed. :)
The work went very well and very fast, so that was a win.

A bit off the wall for me this one, but a shot i thought leant itself to something a bit different. The image is of a girl sitting on the beach at Abermawr in north pembrokeshire. Taken with the 70-300mm lens the compression has produced a foreshortened background which is the wooded area to the west of the beach. Two seperate solarised conversions for foreground and background and then blended together.
