Wow. 2011.

Really? Already!?

**I don't know where this road goes, but I paid the toll, and I'm taking it to the end. **

I am excited for 2011. My expectations are high.

This is Chews Landing Rd in Winslow, NJ.

It's one of my favourite roads back home. It is yard-stick straight, and leaves the large towns in a hurry- like a backroad highway to nowhere. This is my go-to route to get some alone time or on clear nights- go see the stars.

*laughing* I was a bit nervous taking this shot. I saw the car coming from far down the road, but had to wait for it to get closer to get the light burst that I hoped I would get. But then, I had to time it so I would get the full 25 second exposure, but also not get run over.

At night, in the dark, standing in a two lane road, in the middle of nowhere- it's intimidating playing chicken with an oncoming car!

Tomorrow Valorie and I head back to Portland.

It's been a really long time since I picked up my camera, which is sad because I loved this hobby. Really out of practice and have over textured this one a little but it was nice to get something up on flickr again. Who knows... I might be able to start shooting regularly again.

Beginning of a new day captured from an early morning flight to the east coast last week. Hoping the beginning of the new year brings peace, love and happiness. Happy New Year!

1. Removes a tool (camera), not a photographer.

2. The choice of tool limits the possibilities.

3. Experience allows him (instrument) less and less to limit their capabilities.

4. The ability to see is given only when the observer allows ...

5. The moment of observation is the real find ...

6. Training and mastering it defies. Training leads to poor imitations of the original.

7. Often the result should ripen, like wine. Although time is the understanding of the mind, therefore it is very speculative.

8. The meaning of all this is the process!

9. Let it be!

Ballestas Islands, Peru

Maybe this is where a canyon begins or maybe it is the end of a canyon? Most likely, this narrow canyon is still growing at a geologically slow rate.

Caspian Terns were common at the lake years ago...prior to the 2008 mega-flood. They went away after that. Occasionally one or two will visit, but it is seldom enough to almost be considered rare now.

On this day -- Tuesday -- half a dozen were fishing in the late afternoon. I don't know where they come from or where they go, but it is always great fun to see them when they 'drop in'.

A Norfolk Southern freight rolls into the late October sun at Wallkill, New York on the fabled Southern Tier line. There would not be very many NS trains to follow this one. Following the Conrail breakup, NS found very little use of the eastern end of the old Erie and eventually gave this portion to the control of Metro North and the portion between Port Jervis and Binghamton to the Central New York Railway, aka, New York, Susquehanna & Western by a long term lease.

This image was shot on location whilst exploring the Wiltshire countryside at Whitesheet Hill. This is a similar shot to 'Beyond' which was taken earlier in the morning, with this version towards the stage when the light had changed.

With sunrises like this, it's hard not to feel that the day's already off to a great beginning! Photo taken in north San Antonio, Texas.

My mother and grandmother and me, early 1940s.

2022-08-27, Day 1

Looking across the thickly forested Miette River valley from the unmaintained route that leads to Elysium Pass, the slopes of the Continental Divide wring cold moisture from a late-summer storm, Jasper National Park, Canada.

When one leaves the vehicle, shoulders the pack, and heads into the forested mountains with everything required for the next 8 days on one's back, the beginning of what may come to pass feels like a bit of a relief. Before the beginning, there are decisions to make, judgements to render, such as how much pasta does a hungry person really need to eat for a hearty meal? One doesn't want to needlessly carry too much, and one also does not wish to be hungry after a long, arduous day. How many cups of tea might we reasonably want, and how much fuel is required to support that habit? What combination of layers will work best with the anticipated weather? It weighs needlessly on the body to carry clothes one doesn't ultimately need, but being too cold is no fun either.

Once the beginning is underway, these questions recede as there is no longer any point in asking them. One's purposes become solely to find what lies ahead, and to make good decisions to return home as safely as possible. I always hope that I have not stupidly forgotten anything too drastic. The anticipation that has built over the preceding weeks now races out into the landscape and dissipates amongst the talus, blueberries, and coniferous spires.

From the vehicles, we crossed Minaga Creek on the only bridge we would see for the next 8 days, and we began the 1,000 m (3,280 ft) climb over 14.5 km (9 miles) to Elysium Pass where we planned to camp. Here, you can see storm clouds delivering moisture to the higher elevations across the Miette River valley. This same system doused the slope we ascended earlier in the morning, and the clouds gifted every single leaf we brushed past with a singular drop of water to deliver to our chests, legs, and feet. It was not long before the shoes were soaked completely through with water. Though we did not know this as we climbed, the feet would stay cold and wet for the next 6 days, except for when we donned dry sleeping socks.

In the beginning, there were cocktails, and the Almighty blessed these cocktails with some deliciousness, and He waved His mighty hand over them and said, "Lo, you shall drink these, and they shall be good." And they were good, and we all rejoiced.

Today is the longest day of the year and the official start of summer. A pessimist would say that now the days get shorter and would worry about getting Christmas presents in time, lol. But I promise to enjoy every fucking summer day. See you at the beach :D

All part of my Mardi Gras insanity for our Sleepy Cat house float!

I have not been hiding as some of you thought haha.....I have been SOOOOOO sick! My kids and I all got the swine flu and my son and I--due to having asthma--got secondary bacterial pneumonia infections. Today was the first day out of bed in about 10 or 11 days other than to go to the doctors. I am now pretty much on the mend! YIPPEEE!!!!!!

I took these of my dear friend and newborn boy back in August but wanted to upload them today. They made me feel better, new life, fresh starts! Large On Black

My mantra while in my sick bed wanting to die....."Oooh child, things are gonna get easier. OooH child, things will get brighter!" --BETH ORTON--

AMORE A PRIMA VISTA

"Non conoscendosi, credono

che non sia mai successo nulla tra loro.

Ma che ne pensano le strade, le scale, i corridoi

dove da tempo potevano incrociarsi?

Li stupirebbe molto sapere

che già da parecchio tempo

il caso giocava con loro.

Non ancora pronto del tutto

a mutarsi per loro in destino,

li avvicinava, li allontanava,

gli tagliava la strada.

Vi furono segni, segnali,

che importa se indecifrabili.

Forse tre anni fa

o lo scorso martedì

una fogliolina volò via

da una spalla a un'altra?

Qualcosa fu perduto e qualcosa raccolto.

Valigie accostate nel deposito bagagli.

Una notte, forse, lo stesso sogno,

subito confuso al risveglio.

Ogni inizio è solo un seguito

e il libro degli eventi

è sempre aperto a metà."

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

"Because they didn't know each other earlier, they suppose that

nothing was happening between them.

What of the streets, stairways and corridors

where they could have passed each other long ago?

They'd be greatly astonished

to learn that for a long time

chance had been playing with them.

Not yet wholly ready

to transform into fate for them

it approached them, then backed off,

stood in their way.

There were signs, signals:

but what of it if they were illegible.

Perhaps three years ago,

or last Tuesday

did a certain leaflet fly

from shoulder to shoulder?

There was something lost and picked up.

Bags beside each other in the luggage room.

Perhaps they had the same dream on a certain night,

suddenly erased after waking.

Every beginning

is but a continuation,

and the book of events

is never more than half open."

The end of the day is always the beginning of night. So, as one the ends another begins.

This here is a sunset from Big Meadows back in October. Some hours later, I returned to get some fabulous pictures of the milky way.

If you like this picture, please feel free to leave a comment or fave.

Thanks.

Beginning life as two timber framed buildings, records suggest the inn was built to house workmen building the church in the late 1400's. The oldest parts of the present building, that overlooks the village green, date back to the 15th. century.

The first recorded landlord was Humphrey Baley who left in 1782.

The pub received Grade: II listed building status on 11th. September 1951. (English Heritage Legacy ID: 225768).
