Because the cable guy was coming so early the next day, we came back to the house after the opera to sleep. Just a note: air mattress + hardwood floors + pushed against the wall = squeaks EVERY TIME someone moves.

Condemned because the earthquake eroded the high ground on which the school stands. Incidentally, this school was on high ground and designated the local escape grounds, but was still several feet underwater in this tsunami.

Because of a landslide, we had to hike into town along the railroad tracks. When the train would come by, we had to find a place to duck aside to avoid getting squashed by the oncoming train.

Because the color of this R33 is champion blue, I named it Champ. Sidenote: this thing is one heck of a drifter.

Because nobody ever looks at balloon pictures unless something weird is going on which it wasn't really here. It was just my pitiful attempt to con you out of a view and maybe even a comment but that's okay if you don't want to play my silly little game. The raffle prize was a doozy, though. Man, you would have loved that!

These are not are DVDs. You can tell because they do not have our ownership label around the hub.

We use "dummy" cases for displaying CD and DVD titles. You grab the empty dummy case and exchange it for the circulating case with the disc inside. A customer browsing the music collection brought a few cases to the desk for checkout and these two DVDs were found inside. We have no clue who put them there.

I am so happy to have taken the photos yesterday, because today it is rainig... and it seems that next days will be cloudy/rainig too. I can't take lots of photos lately... ) :

I reworked this photo because of something I saw on simis' photostream:

** Method used **

1. Take an amazing image. [DON'T KNOW HOW AMAZING THIS IS!]

2. use the eyedropper to sample the color you want to color the image with. This may be from another image, the swatches flyout, or really anywhere.

3. Add an empty layer to your image.

4.in photo shop ( or elements) press alt-backspace to fill the layer with the foreground color you sampled. (MAc, option-delete)

5.change the layer blending mode (where it says "normal") to "color"

6. If the duotone isn't quite right, you can use the eyedropper tool to grab a new color. just press alt-backspace (option-delete) to install the new color.

NOTE: The trick is to choose a color that complements your image.

What I did differently is made the color layer opaque about 65% after blending because there was a hint of red in the old building that I wanted to pick up. I guess this doesn't really make it a TRUE duotone but I really like how this photo turned out... I'll try the real duotone on another picture... that doesn't have my favorite color red in it:)

Because you can never have enough versions of a selfie.

I particularly love this image because it gives everyone something different to "see". It's an abstract creation of water and oil that creates circular shapes. But it's more than that: it's a little universe, a galaxy, a bunch of meteorites... or maybe these are red cells, flowing in our bodies...perhaps, with its dark colors, it depicts the end of the world as we know it...

... to growth, because there are no limits to the human capacity for intelligence, imagination, and wonder."

Assignment (from me): An exercise in observation. My children could choose a subject, draw it or write a journal around it. (Need to keep them busy this summer!)

My son J chose a rock lying around in the garden for this exercise. Next step - he picked up his magnifying glass, microscope, some folder, colors - a whole lot of parapharnelia! Our conversation follows:

me: Where are you going with all that stuff?

J: To the garden. Scientists need to investigate. So I need my equipment.

Me: No no no. Scientists don't carry all that stuff around. They bring samples to their lab and then study it. (Note: Its absolutely hot outside!)

J: Oh! so where is my lab?

Me: The dining table or your room :)

J: Ok. Do you know the name of this rock?

Me: I have no idea!

J: Can I name it after myself?

Hmmm......What do you say to that!

huh!! So thats my budding 'scientist' cum 'cricketer' in action :) Beside is his 'assistant' taking notes.
