“A great photograph is endlessly interesting because it is both fact and fiction, dated and timeless, explicit and mysterious, unforgettable yet impossible to remember. Photography’s ultimate paradox is, perhaps, that it helps us see while simultaneously preventing us from knowing ….”
– Leah Benddavid-Val (from The Book of Photography, National Geographic)
So what are we, as photographers, trying to do? Are we making a scene memorable or are we guiding the viewers into the depth of life going beyond the visual illusions.
Or the photographer actually becomes part of that memorable scene as what we see here in Minoru Park?
I had infrared long exposure in the park and the photographer was just staying still there. He became important part of the scene in my eyes.
Have a great Friday and weekend!
Because of their raptorial forelegs, mantisflies look like tiny praying mantises but the two are not at all closely related --- their closest relatives are lacewings and antlions in the order Neuroptera. This one, which was attracted to a moth light at night, could be Zeugomantispa minuta, a species which ranges from the northern United States to Venezuela.
Hopefully the Gordon Lightfoot fans will get the song title reference. This image sat around for awhile because I was unsure of what to do with it. I tried to tweak the colours at first but I didn't really like how it came out. Now after mulling over it for awhile I went with the black and white conversion. I knew it would work out well because of how blue the sky was in the original image. Adding adjustments like burning was incredibly easy since the telephone pole has sharp edges. Overall I am quite pleased with how this image came out. Images like this are the reason I never get rid of any photos I take. Even though not many photos are salvageable, when you sit on the image and tweak it over the course of a few months you can get a result that you never expected after taking the image.

Since it's Super Bowl Sunday, I'll put it out there that I'm going for Denver to win the Super Bowl tonight! Hopefully that doesn't sway your opinion of this image!

Because of bridge work in Milwaukee Amtrak was detoured onto the CN at Duplainville. After backing onto the main #8 holds for a northbound CN intermodal. 12/10/05
Because the original is at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, this is of course a replica. This was one of two built in the mid-1970 with the original registration N-X-211 on its tail. The other still flies, but this one is just on display.

Defeated, wasted, broken, bruised
All because of my addictions
It left me crying and confused
It cuts right through my religion
My good intentions
Disregarded, overlooked
Sinking lower and lower
The shame erased my name and took
My face and made it like the others
Would I recover?
Today's another day
To learn from my mistakes
Knowing that we're not forsaken
They give life to where we've been
When we fall and start again
Scars remind us who we are

better late than never, my first book "just because you are listening (dedications to anyone who misses anything)" is finally available through me online. i put the book out a few months back, and it is a book made up entirely of dedications with paired imagery.
put out in a small run of 400, with first 100 SIGNED AND NUMBERED with a hand-silkscreened cardboard cover, which is hand-binded as well.
very last copies left, contact me if interested.
...I can't help but think that parents know what's best for their children (we want what's best for them; right?!)
I've flipped that model on its head. I've allowed my boys to have input on where we, as a family, go/do since they were able to articulate (with some oversight based upon my ability to accommodate).
Pic of Travus overlooking the greater Auckland City region today...it was Austin who decided to move here, and Travus whom made it *happen* (long story!)!

Because of restrictions placed on all airport personnel by BCAD, only now that the NTSB investigation has concluded and the frame has been released for scrapping can I publicly post this image from 21 January.
FDX910 (N370FE) operating MEM-FLL had its left main landing gear collapse on landing 10L at 1750 local on 28 Oct 2016. It came to rest about 6580' feet down the 9000' runway, between Quebec and A4. ARFF response was 90 seconds, call to first foam. Crew escaped unharmed via starboard cockpit window line.
I've created an album of the wreck here: www.flickr.com/photos/58327945@N07/albums/72157677635643772
Because of the wonderfully beautiful rainy weather conditions, no Photoshop was necessary on this image. The rain brought out the colors and contrast exactly the way I like. The hardest part was keeping the camera dry. Photo taken from the parking lot of the Rocky River Reservation in Northeast Ohio.

Because of my recent travels, giving me my first opportunity to use the excellent Citylink Air service, I was unable to attend this months meeting of the Model Bus Scotland group, of which I am one of the admins. The meeting theme was “independent operators” and so, to make up for missing the meeting, I had a little photoshoot of some of my independent’s coach models. Featuring a majority of Code 3 (officially manufactured models, altered, repainted etc without the makers knowledge), these pictures include models of; Henderson Travel (Hamilton). Stuarts of Carluke, Hutchison of Overtown. McKindless (Newmains)
Wide shot - in the background are (L-R) Council semi-detached houses, row of small high street shops, block of high rise, multi-storey flats. In front of which are 4 coaches - all of different Lanarkshire independent operators and all depicted operating their respective Glasgow Express services. Leaving the city is a Hutchison of Overtown, Plaxton Premiere in the companies standard coach livery with “Scottish Pullman” branding. It is bound for Cleland via Motherwell & Wishaw. Following it is competitor McKindless of Newmains YIB4528, another Premiere and also in standard coach fleet livery with “McKindless Express” branding. It is bound for West Crindledyke on the X1 route. In the opposite direction: TSV266 a Stuarts of Carluke Van Hool Alizee operating the 240X from Lanark, leads the race to Buchanan Bus Station. Hot on its heels is another Plaxton Premiere, this one in a much simpler livery is from H-A-D of Shotts. The company takes its name from the initials of the owners, Harry-And-Deborah Law.
