January 21, 2020 - This morning we had our first landing in Antarctica. I can now check off visiting all seven continents from my bucket list.
We visited Argentine Base Esperanza located in Trinity Peninsula. It is a inhabited year round by Argentine families. This base was founded in 1953 and holds the distinction of the birth of Emilio Palma on 7 January 1978. Emilio was the first person to be born in Antarctica.
We saw the historic stone hut where Andersson, Duse and Grunden from the 1903 Nordenskjold Swedish expedition lived. We also visited a small museum, chapel and the school house.
Wildlife seen: Adélie Penguins, Gentoo Penguins and Snowy Sheathbill. On our Zodiac ride back to the ship we saw a Leopard Seal.

The TGCC Ghana project partnered USAID and Ecom Trading, Hershey Chocolate’s Ghanaian cocoa supplier, is helping boost tenure security and cocoa production for vulnerable cocoa farmers like Khosa.
Based on the knowledge that cocoa farmers’ land tenure insecurity deters them from investing in their farm to improve their harvests, the project worked to strengthen farmer’s land rights by mapping their land and noting their historical use of the land in a document certified by the local chief. For many farmers this is the first documentation of their land rights. The project also offers farmers financing to rehabilitate and diversify their farm.
The potential benefits of this approach go beyond the farm gate, as farmers with secure rights to land and access to financing can increase their harvests without cutting down more forest to expand their farm. Photo credit: Rena Singer
NAMEST AIR BASE, Czech Republic -- Maintainers from the 81st Aircraft Maintenance Unit inspect an A-10 Thunderbolt II that just returned from providing close air support to a forward air control training mission Sept. 12, during Ramstein Rover 2012 here. A-10 Thunderbolt IIs from the 81st FS are participating in the NATO exercise to provide close air support to partnering nations and practice forward air control missions with allies in international security assistance force realistic scenarios. Participating in exercises like RARO 12 ensures effective employment of airpower in support of alliance or coalition forces while mitigating risks to civilians in contingency operations. Turning finals on Base Sucre air base (SVBS), Maracay. We wanted to get to Valencia Airport, but another airplane had a misshap upon landing and the airport was closed for around 1:30 hours, so we called our pax and told'em to haul a$$ and get their behinds to this airport (35mins drive).
