Green aircraft engine developer ZeroAvia is to establish a major manufacturing base in Scotland, creating around 350 jobs.

Scottish Enterprise has awarded a grant of £9 million to the project, building on an earlier £20 million investment in the company from the Scottish National Investment Bank. The grant will unlock significant multiple investments from ZeroAvia as it develops the facility and operations, with the company targeting a multi-billion pound global export market.

First Minister John Swinney visited Glasgow Airport to meet with ZeroAvia and partners supporting the project and Scotland’s green aviation agenda.

Strobist Info: Sunpak 383 shot through umbrella which was half covered by black cover at 1/2 power on left. Reflector on right. Triggered using RF-602.

The umbrella was half blocked so as to not throw light on the wood blinds but still light the model. Some pictures were shot with the light coming in through the door on the left but eventually I blocked it out with some foam core to maintain a more consistent setup.

To get to the very old radar base you have to drive for miles on a noisy gravel road and then, suddenly, pavement leading all the way to the radar base and dying out in a dirt track beyond. Also there are suddenly tons of telephone poles and signs of electricity that used to be used at the base--now it's obviously not. It's sort of disconcerting.

January 21, 2020 - This morning we had our first landing in Antarctica. I can now check off visiting all seven continents from my bucket list.

We visited Argentine Base Esperanza located in Trinity Peninsula. It is a inhabited year round by Argentine families. This base was founded in 1953 and holds the distinction of the birth of Emilio Palma on 7 January 1978. Emilio was the first person to be born in Antarctica.

We saw the historic stone hut where Andersson, Duse and Grunden from the 1903 Nordenskjold Swedish expedition lived. We also visited a small museum, chapel and the school house.

Wildlife seen: Adélie Penguins, Gentoo Penguins and Snowy Sheathbill. On our Zodiac ride back to the ship we saw a Leopard Seal.

9-27-07-"The Spire" base (Height-120 metres/393 ft.) unveiled 2002 center of O'Connell St.-Dublin, Ireland. The Spire, was to have been the Millenium Spire but did not get finished until 2002/early 2003. The Irish have not quite accepted this "Stiletto in the Ghetto" or the "Spike", as some refer to it. Stands on the site of the old Nelson's Pillar which was removed abruptly by the IRA. It is the largest sculpture in the world, a 120 metres high cone that goes from 6 in. at the top to 10 ft. at the base and the price tag was totally unbelievable. Constructed of 8 hollow tubes of stainless steel and features a tuned mass damper to counteract sway. Used by many as a landmark as to where they are in the city.

A lucky group of Travis Air Force Base family members boarded a KC-10 Extender Feb 17, 2015 as part of an incentive flight on an air-to-air refueling mission. The spouse orientation sortie was arranged to familiarize our Air Force spouses and their families with what their loved ones do on an everyday basis to defend our nation. They were able to experience the KC-10 capabilities firsthand and ask questions of the crew. Passengers were able to witness the refueling of a C-17 Globemaster III piloted by Col. Corey Martin, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander, during his final flight. (Released - U.S. Air Force Photograph/Heide Couch)

JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL (April 30, 2014) -- The Nation's Capital Region may have been deluged under heavy rain storms, but for more than a thousand audience members at this year's opening performance of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington's (MDW) Twilight Tattoo, it was all about enjoying the military spectacle.

Twilight Tattoo is an hour-long, live-action military pageant featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own." Audience members from around the world experience a glimpse into American history through performances by the U.S. Army Blues, vocalists from the U.S. Army Band Downrange, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and the U.S. Army Drill Team.

"Beginning each spring and running all summer long until August, thousands of people watch our Soldiers tell the Army's story," said Jeremy Kern, MDW assistant marketing director. "Performances are usually outside, but if it rains like it did today, no worries, we just do it inside at Conmy Hall right here post."

Twilight Tattoo's opening performance was hosted by, Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, MDW's commanding general. Buchanan used the first show of the season to recognize the partnership his command has with the USO of Metropolitan Washington. USO Metro board member, Bob Kaylor accepted a memento during the opening segment of the show.

Twilight Tattoo performances begin at 7 p.m. Pre-ceremony pageantry begins at 6:45 p.m. Performances from April 30 through June 25 will be located at Summerall Field at JBM-HH, Arlington, Va. Performances from July 9 through Aug. 20 will be located at Whipple Field, JBM-HH and of course if the weather is bad, it is held indoors at Conmy Hall on JBM-HH.
