"Everyone should be doing something in the community, and this is my thing" said Bart Vanderlinde who has volunteered to maintain the ice rink at College Heights Secondary School for over 20 years.

The roof consists of 3 layers of plastic membrane. The top and middle layers are covered in alternate black squares. When the temperature in the atrium gets too high, the middle layer is inflated so that it meets the top convex layer, the squares are in anti-coincidence, and the light level falls.
That's the theory.
