(Toy Sunday: Baking)
With its bright yellow exterior, vines and bird nest boxes, this small community bake and coffee shop makes the welcome sign over the door redundant. I was on my way home from an overnight trip when I photographed this. It looks worthy of a visit next time I am in the area.
It snowed, today, from 7:45 am to, approximately, 4 pm. The wind blew & it looked pretty impressive. When I measured, though, we'd only gotten 4 1/2 inches of powder snow, here in Troy, New York, USA on January 27, 2015. So much for the local expression of Winter Storm Juno! I had a pleasant day, though, baking scones & listening to an online concert on Concert Window. Fun site! I did not follow the scone recipe exactly, but I suspect it would produce a fine product. I used butter & all dried fruit (no nuts). I used King Arthur white whole wheat flour. If you haven't tried it, it substitutes quite nicely for white flour! This recipe makes a light, cookie-like scone, rather than a biscuit-like one. Good, though! Here's a link to the recipe: honestfare.com/super-berry-scones-whole-wheat-greek-yogurt/ Overnight Explore, from 25 to more than 3,000 views. Surprise!
..makes me happy!
My sis and I love baking but we hardly have the time for it. We recently bought a bunch of new baking stuff and have only used it a couple times. We are hoping to utilize them much over the Christmas season though ^_^

Together with other smaller items, Kim's baking day produced a chicken and mushroom pie plus a version of cinnamon rolls using left over mince pie makings from Xmas.
It comes in numerous forms, it is the simplest yet the most important ingredient of almost any baking recipe and of course of this which feeds the world: bread!
What would the world be without flour?
They'll go. They and so many other things will go. We just can't keep all the things that remind us of our mother. It just becomes clutter. They're old and rusty and very well used. She baked, my mother. It was one of her top ways of showing love. If you showed up at her house she would feed you and visit with you and love you and then when you were ready to go she would send you home with some baking. And her bread was amazing. Sometime in summer I was over there for lunch and we had a simple meal of toasted tomato sandwiches. At one point during the meal she made a comment that this was the last loaf of bread she had in the freezer. At that time we already knew that things weren't looking good. I didn't want to put any significance on those bites of sandwich. I wanted to enjoy them just as I had all the other bread she'd made. It was hard but I managed to accomplish it. And the thing is, this is likely only half of the bread pans. When she baked her dough was... well, think old stye wash tub size. Her filled bread pans would completely cover our dining room table as they rose.
Off they go. The best I can do is hold on to the memories and take a photo.

Our Daily Challenge ~ Rise / Raise ....

Cook's been with me for so long, I really can't remember. Her first range was an old cast iron number; wood fired — no knobs or dials, seat-of-the-pants cooking, proper skills! Then it was gas; big, semi-professional — oven the size of a suckling pig or whole lamb if she desired, cast iron trivets you'd be proud to lift in the weight room. Now, the Estate's kitchen has gone all electric at the great expense of bringing in the power underground and replacing Cook's beloved cookware — hardly any of it, including her treasured copper ware and stove-top coffee pots, her 'coffee engines', work on the newfangled induction cooktop.
Today, she has the day off. Why not? Now she's shouldered the housekeeper's duties, following the "incident", she's more than earned a day off. Besides, with her out of the kitchen, I've made bagels.
I used that spelling because that seems to be "on trend". My recipe is for beigels, same thing, archaic spelling. It is said to be etymologically derived from German — meaning ring, or bracelet. Mine are traditional beigels, not pumped up mega-bagels — polite, 2 ounce beigels. They're an easy morning's work for me; probably half that for Cook.
When she gets back, how much trouble will I be in for violating her kitchen? I'm hoping a fresh bagel, some creamcheese and lox will win her over. Besides, I haven't left a very big mess.

This version of my week planner is designed for two family members (each member has its own row) - half of charm pack is needed to make it (for colorful parts) plus fabric for white sashing, fabrics for back and binding.
In version for four family members one charm pack is needed (for colorful parts) plus fabric for white sashing, fabrics for backing and binding.
It can be also used at the office.
Corners of each square are pockets to put there cards with plan for each day of the week or another information. These corners were made from 1/4 of charms and they are sewn between the rows.
Buckle is used to indicate day of the week. When the day changes, buckle is moved to another.
Depending on weight of the buckle (mine is quite heavy) buttons for secure the strip are needed.
Machine quilted (cotton batting was used) and machine bound.
