Bandolier Bag, Western Great Lakes, late 19th century, broadcloth, wool, cotton, beads, brass buttons
Story behind the picture - I asked my mom if she had some extra celery. This is how I received it from her. I couldn't bring myself to eat it.
I modified an earlier pattern for this bag. It's single crocheted instead of double (there's math involved to do that!). It's a "Tapestry Crochet" design. I had no pattern for the "chain link" and kind of made it up as I went (the way I cook .... no recipe, just "until it looks right!"). To do this, I was working with 2 strands of different colored yarn at the same time. A great technique for making personal monogrammed bags with names
Sue wanted to get one of these Kate Spade plastic lobster-print bags for her mom (the Maine connection, you see...). I prevailed on her to not get it because, it being Kate Spade, it was ridiculously expensive. Especially for a PLASTIC LOBSTER-PRINT BAG. Geez, you get something like that for $15 at Wal-Mart. Ms. Spade must think women are idiots.
(Well, maybe she's on to something. Sue bought an even more expensive canvas bag later that weekend. I need to get into the bag-selling business.)
Quite possibly my favourite bag. I wanted this for ages but it was no longer for sale on the Skipping Girl website. I ended up emailing them and they made this one specially for me. I'm a huge fan of Skipping Girl bags. They're so durable and quirky at the same time!
Jacqueline from Norfolk, England sent me the most wonderful friendship bag - she even made the cute little frog bag for my son after I commented he would probably claim the one being made for me! How sweet and thoughtful! Thank you so much! Blogged badlandsquilts.blogspot.com/2009/09/fabulous-friendship-b...
Oh, and I just realized I didn't get the matching pincushion in the photo - some 3 yr old had it in his room!
My new MacBook bag from Hello Lulu. It's so spiffy! And very versatile. It can be hand-carried, or hung from the shoulder, or used as a sling bag, either horizontally or vertically.
Laptop bag and matching cozy for Dottie hazard. Minnesota roller girl and spoken word artist. She just emailed a picture of this skully design. Said "maybe sparkly black and pink..?"
And this is what I made for her. She liked it.
Interior of the Amy Butler pattern - Nappy Bag. Made a few modifications, see other pictures. This thing holds a lot. In the bag here: blanket, diaper cover, cloth diaper, dirty diaper bag, 2 burp rags, a couple of toys, a spare outfit, water spray bottle, cloth wipes, natural hand sanitizer, changing pad, lap pad, sun hat, shopping bag, digital camera, and extra nursing pads. Phew!
Shopping Bag used in late 1980's and early 1990's by now-defunct chain Venture which closed down in 1994. It was originally owned by now defunct Adelaide retailer John Martin's.
