The really complex flower from my backyard Starry Rosinweed. A great, fairly tall, native wildflower that grows well with little care under average conditions.
I decided to try some macro images and found my subjects around the flowerbeds in the backyard. I have recently bought a photo light tent and wanted to try it out.
Look what crawled into the Pequot Museum this week ... giant bugs. Get a bug’s-eye view of some common backyard insects and their habitat in Backyard Monsters, the newest exhibit in the Mashantucket Gallery on Saturday, Feb. 16-May 17, 9 am-5 pm. Step into a world where insects tower over humans. Giant robotic insects up to 96 times their normal size, all with lifelike colors and movements, dominate the exhibition. Come face to face with an animated 11-foot-tall, 22-foot-long tarantula, a 19-foot-wide monarch butterfly, and a pair of giant fighting beetles. Hands-on displays let you take a mechanical insect for a walk, build a bug, learn how insects communicate, make a bug rubbing, and more. With a focus on nature and natural history, the exhibit is educational while capturing the attention and imagination of children and adults. Free with Museum admission, free to Museum members.
The Pine Siskins are getting used to me I guess. With the 28mm FD lens I actually got quite close to them to take this shot.
Canon EOS Rebel XTi with a vintage28mm FD lens on an adapter for my 100x project as well.
I appreciate each and every visit, comment and fave here on my little corner of Flickr. Have a super day!

My backyard several days ago. A fog was rolling across the neighborhood as temperatures rose and thawed the snow.
We had a beautiful 80 degree day - the first in 2012. I painted this sitting on our back porch. It was late in the day and the light was changing fast. You can read more about it on my blog at :

YOU JUST NEVER KNOW
I haven't seen any hummingbirds in the backyard until I placed a feeder in the back and within 2 minutes they were checking it out. When I put it up I thought it would take at least a day or 2. So I guess unless you are truly looking for them, you just don't know that they are already there.
