Only a selection of images from each photo-shoot are posted here. If you'd like to see additional images from certain models you'll need to subscribe to my Patreon account where I will be publishing content I don't post here. You'll also have the option to make fan requests for more photos, or new photo-shoots, with your favourite models. My subscription rates are very low , staring from only $1/month, so check it out as I could really do with your support. - www.patreon.com/realitydysfunction

My video skills aren't quite what my photography skills are, but you don't need a perfect video to be amazed by a Mongolian contortionist.
It's a shame that I couldn't figure out the video function on my new Canon EOS 5D Mark II when I saw my first contortionist, but was still glad that I figured it out just in time for this one at the Mungun Mod ger camp.
i had a feeling i would touch my toes to my heels by the end of 2009. i just didn't think it would happen TODAY! of course it makes sense that it happened in august, not december. the trick was to have a friend pull my hips fwd to take the weight off my hands so i could crawl my fingers forward. "almost there, almost there," she said. then i yelped, "can you take a picture?!" next: to get the bend to come more from my back instead of so much from my shoulders, so the whole thing can be taller and tighter.
Prior to attending our first Instagram meetup, Joshua and I went to Griffith Park to the abandoned zoo. We took some photos and I've had this idea in my mind for a few months now, but we were never near the zoo! Until this weekend!
Josh and I both LOVED this book series growing up called the Cirque Du Freak series. I have a strange obsession with things like freak shows and contortionists and vampries and werewolves and witches, etc. So when I came back to this cage (the last time I was here was a year ago at the LA Flickr meetup) I immediately knew what photo I wanted to take ;)
Thanks to Josh for being a human tripod!
Hope you all enjoy! I still have a few more photos to post from the Insta meetup.
strobist: sb-80 through umbrella camera right, bare sb-80s against back wall on either side, for rim
The second in a series, the first one being Underneath. This one was a bit more work!
In addition to making the bloody feathers (including the ones in my mouth that are a little hard to see, unfortunately), I had to figure out the right way to capture a backbend to make it look like flight. That involved about 100 takes and a tired back! I then pointed my camera right up and tried to put the sun in a logical spot in the frame. Compositing that plus several layers of other stuff was the final step.
Lighting: An SB-900 camera right for fill against the sun, which acted as the key light.
