Great Egret in full breeding colors/plumage on a windy day. The Great Egrets' breeding display is made up of a couple of bounces downward, a quick upward stretch with extension of the neck and head and a pronounced backbend, ending with a final bounce down. And there you have it.

Perhaps they knew I love challenges and LOVE to play with images...lee.stephens and KpriceWicked challenged me to do a self portrait with the theme "The Matrix".

for their Self-Portrait Project Pool...Never mind that I was crazy busy...Heck this was fun stuff... I went to town!... Be sure to check their work out too!

I knew in my head, starting out, how I wanted it to look. I loved Keanu Reeve's backbend, but as in most things I do, it starts to strike me as funny, hence the shots of my laughing like crazy... Decided to leave those in even without that "Don't mess with me look."

Trainer at my gym said I should do that kick jump. In my outtake, but I thought it looked too much like the 'Karate Kid" so chose to not use it.

I decided to do the Matrix code panel in sets of three's, cubes and spheres...There is a theory that I was going with (a whole other story). I tried darkening my hair in PS, which actually I liked, but they did say "Self Portrait."maybe real, and how I look now?

I spent two days trying to find pictures from a job I shot on the roof of LA's tallest building, the Library Tower but the negatives are somewhere in their own Matrix, in my office files

Chose a metal texture for the background, highlights, on the outfit to give it the shiny leather effect like what "Trinity" wore.

Shot in studio with a white seamless, which I later cursed myself for doing, and wished I'd used my black background, as it made it difficult in cutting and pasting. The black would have saved a lot of detail work and I would have gone to bed before the morning paper arrived!

I used:

Three strobes, one with a green gel (which I ended up not using) Cordless shutter release, (which helps a ton when shooting a SP like this), Nikon D700 with 28-85mm lens.

[Shot this self-portrait in some wisteria in a local neighborhood last Friday. Hope whoever owned this yard with the lovely flowers didn't mind a crazygirl doing backbends right outside their fence for this one...

I've been thinking a lot about breaking myself apart and piecing myself back together again. About how important it is to do that, and to do it frequently. Right now I'm in the process of breaking myself apart--determing how I will reconstruct myself yet again. And I wonder, too, how many times I'll do such a thing until my final days.

This is a reprise (get it...? =P) of an older image of mine titled into the rise.]

ps. editing was done starting with pescadero by underthewaves, goodness i use this girl's presets all the time and always forget to credit. she has some absolutely wonderful work including LR presets, go check out her stream.

I work for a publishing company and they often times use employee's for photo shoots. I thought this would be fun to share since it was merely a year ago that I could barely bend over to tie my own shoe :)

Again - I swore I looked just like Shiva Rea -- not quite.

Went to Swakopmund this weekend to visit my mother and shot some images that were on my to-do list. I wanted to recreate this shot for awhile and am pleased with the result. Given that it is winter here at the moment it was very cold out on the beach in this flimsy outfit.

I wanted to incorporate dance and yoga with the surreal and although this is not an original idea, I did try to deepen the backbend.

The birds are cormorants which one will find along our coastline.

Hope everyone is well. I spend more time on Instagram because of the yoga community and find their support wonderful at this point.

A tourist in the waking world, never quite awake

No kiss, no gentle word could wake me from this slumber

Blinding: Florence and the Machine

This was a shot of a backbend gone wrong but there was something that I liked about it and so I played around with textures. I happened to be listening to Florence and the Machine and I guess this is what I ended up with. Not even sure I like the end result all that much, but I'm in a funk tonight about my photos and don't know what I like at the moment. ..I may look at this tomorrow or the next day and hit delete

So happy to be back!

I have been so busy lately that I've barely had time to turn around, let alone do personal shoots. It's been a very exciting and challenging endeavor, as you can imagine, and while I don't aspire to be a producer by any stretch, I consider it priceless education for me in terms of making my own films. I've gained so much knowledge about the business of filmmaking and how to organize and lead people- something you don't tend to get a lot of experience doing when you are shooting self-portraits!

At the same time, I've been hungering to get back to my selfies. So when the clouds rolled into LA the other day, I knew I had to take full advantage. I chased the clouds all the way Agua Dolce and found the perfect spot, just beyond the 'No Trespassing' sign. (All the best locations are always just beyond a 'No Trespassing' sign, I've decided.) I wanted to do just a simple, straight-forward photo of how I was feeling that day. Every now and then, it's nice to just create just for the sake of expressing a feeling, rather than trying to convey some deep thought-provoking concept. :)
