Katherine in Ardha Matsyendraasana, the 13th pose in the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Yoga as taught by Pattabhi Jois. This seated spinal twist is the gateway pose from backbends into forward folds. Named for a legendary sage of Ancient India, Matsyendra.
I decided to try a little motion-capture and see what happened. This one uses a silk scarf attached to a box fan.

Amazing show during the Flint Hills 2008 International Children Festival, in Saint Paul, MN. I did not get great angles since I was alone with my two little princesses… to be honest, it was hard to take even these shots.
