The eye of the horse, the rugged Icelandic horse of the wind-swept hills in the Northwestern Region of Iceland. I saw several horses to the side of a remote road. They looked magnificent, their wild manes flowing in the feisty wind. I hung out with the horse at first, just simply standing and admiring it and making eye contact. Eventually, the horse came over, and I petted its nose for several minutes. After that, I began taking photos of the horse close up. It maintained eye contact with me while I was doing this, and its mane would sometimes obscure its eye. Here, though, the mane parted beautifully, and I have this photo of the horse gazing right at us.

Spring is finally upon us. This being Canada, however, we are still seeing evidence that winter was here in full force.
Anytime I see a creek I'm reminded of Heraclitus' "panta rei" (everything flows). They are in my opinion some of the most serene settings nature has to offer. I love contemplating life while enjoying their silky smooth waters and the pleasant sound of the water steadily shaping the rocks.

When I asked my friends on social media to vote for a photo of the day, most picked the lamb photo that I already posted. However, there was a clear runner-up: this photo of a very snowy road up a local mountain. Soon after I took it, I had to turn around because my car started to look like a snowplow.
I know it's not great for the environment, but I've always found white fences and green pastures to be incredibly appealing.
Autumn got serious today and we were greeted by incredible gusts of wind. Still, I can't complain knowing the kind of weather my many friends in Ireland are dealing with.
Arch from an abandoned mineral spa in Salton Sea, CA. The ruins made us feel like we were in a building that was bombed in Aleppo in Syria.

I was driving in Scarborough when I saw this sunset over the bridge. I had to stop and grab a shot just in time.
I needed a pair of sunglasses after losing my existing ones in an arson fire last year. Since I plan to cycle, I wanted a pair that was suitable for biking but also looked good when used more casually. This polarized, anti-fog pair of Nelson sunglasses by Ryders was the answer. They fit like a glove (which is rare for me), are very easy on the eyes even in bright sunlight, look great, can't seem to fog no matter what, and are quite affordable. I like them so much that I figured I'd take a product shot of them for the project. :)

Unionville's charm is off the charts. Everywhere I look I see photographic opportunities. A true gem within the Greater Toronto Area.
As I mentioned before, we can discuss the ethics of the meat and dairy industries altogether, but it's always nice to see that many Canadian farm animals get to enjoy a free-range existence. In this ranch among the mountains, there were hundreds of cows and calves running around freely. I've never seen cows so spunky and happy before.
These two beautiful Great Horned Owl chicks have been quite the attraction in downtown Penticton this week. It's rare to see owls in Penticton and they were too cute to pass up.
When you see an unknown path in nature are you excited about what lays ahead or are you terrified by the possible perils?
In this part of the country, there are ticks, mosquitos, black widows, scorpions, poison ivy, rattlesnakes, cougars, bears, deer, the occasional elk or moose, wolves, and depending on the season, slippery terrain and hostile weather conditions. It's practically a miracle that anyone survives a hike, you might think.
What actually happens is that you get to see incredible landscapes, peaceful rivers and channels, shiny lakes, mating bald eagles, wild animals running free in the distance. You breathe in fresh air while contemplating the miracle that life is.
It's important to be prepared, but we shouldn't let the fear of something going wrong prevent us from taking a new path, exploring, and enjoying the exciting perspectives that might lie ahead behind the curve.
This isn't about hiking. This is about life.
Sometimes I ask myself, "But what if something goes wrong? What if I die?". The answer is not just that it's unlikely. The answer is that I might as well be dead if I live a life in which I'm afraid of finding out where exciting new paths may lead.

Water and ice are the same matter in a different state. I try to remember that whenever I meet new people. People who are different. People who think or act differently than I do. People that I may instinctually judge at first. They are the same matter just in a different state, like the water and ice coexisting in this shot of Skaha Lake at sunset.
Bales of hay will always remind me of summers spent around the horses when I was growing up in Italy.
