We headed over to Banff and stopped by its beautiful Lake Minnewanka. I like how the mountain almost looks like a volcano due to the cloud formation.
I wanted to take a photo of the moon between two sources of artificial light. I actually got that shot but when editing a selection of the photos, this one where the highlights are less contained jumped at me due to the alien-like optical illusion. I thought it was cool enough to share, even if the picture itself is of a lesser caliber.

Como viene siendo habitual los jueves es el día por excelencia de Shadows.. dedicamos estos días para trabajar bien paisaje si vemos que las condiciones acompañan o un poquito de lightpainting resguardados en algún lugar sino podemos estar fuera.
En esta ocasión teníamos pendiente acudir a esta localización que ya habíamos visto a alguno de nuestros colegas nocturnos.
Una de las estaciones abandonadas más bonitas que tenemos cerca de Madrid, su estado de conservación es bueno y para hacer unas nocturnas es ideal.
En este caso optamos por iluminar el interior con tonos cálidos, para aprovechar los azules que nos dejarían en el cielo el paso de las nubes en larga exposición.
Luego iluminamos el exterior para dotar a la escena de algo de contraste y dejarla como nos gusta.
Nos decantamos por este encuadre para esta toma pues, la verdad, es que parece que los arboles están puestos a posta para sacarles en la foto intentamos quitar una gran fuente de luz que salía al final de la vía cerrando el encuadre.

Excuse Me While I Touch The Sky (5302)
This is a real photo taken at night. This evening, everything was illuminated by a big bright moon, an almost full moon. And setting my tripod-mounted camera to a long exposure made the camera much more sensitive to light than our eyes on this already bright evening. This is why this photo seems brighter than what we might see at night. It is not due to post-processing. The moon, which reflects light from the sun, also makes the sky bluer, and when the photo is a long exposure photo, the sky will appear brighter, making the blue more apparent. I illuminated the foreground with a hand-held ProtoMachines LED2 flashlight to bring out more depth. This is not a post-processing creation. No pixels were harmed during the creation of this photo. :D I used a Pinout remote controller/app to set and trigger the camera.
I took this photo in Joshua Tree National Park, CA, hanging out with Dave Dasinger while doing so. JTNP is my spiritual home for night photography, and it felt utterly fantastic to return here to photograph here at night and hike during the day.

Those who leave their country of origin, as I have, are often divided between two lands that they call home. Sometimes feeling like you belong to both and sometimes as if you belong to neither. The adoptive country that welcomed you and has so much to offer (the future, if you will) and the country whose earth you first walked on as a child, that houses your roots. The Okanagan, with its hills and vineyards, constantly reminds me of central Italy - particularly Tuscany and Marche (where I grew up in my teen years). If I close my eyes for a moment, breathe it all in, I'm almost there.

Vaseux is a fairly photogenic lake. Combine it with an orange sunset and crazy, stormy clouds, and you get to stare at quite a dramatic display of what nature has to offer.
Six months ago we became victims of an arson fire. It feels as if it rained for a long time. Now that the rain has stopped, we're left with clouds and time to reflect.
This photo is similar to the one from yesterday but it portrays a different lake and a lusher landscape.
Was out taking pictures of Georgie playing in the backyward and heard some chirping noises coming from the trees. Took a look and saw this cute little yellow bird chirping away on the very top of a tree by the fence. Took a substantial crop, and the bird looked great!

Calgary got a lot colder and cloudier all of a sudden. At least the dark clouds provide a nice contrast with the illuminated bridge.
A common misconception in the world of photography is that wide-angle lenses serve the purpose of getting everything in the frame. When used in such a fashion, you'll definitely capture it all, but most subjects in the photo will be distant, tiny, and virtually indistinguishable. Although this can work occasionally, the real advantage of such a lens is the ability to include a foreground subject and still have room to show the context in which it resides. The wide-angle nature of the lens will then further lead the eye from the subject in the foreground to the rest of the image. I shot this photo at 16mm to capture both these interesting branches and the dramatic sky.
Some impressive Kp6 northern light activity from last weekend, which were visible all the way to southern Finland.
