Fall is my favorite season. Not too hot, not too cold. I find the range of colors in Autumn to be quite appealing as well.
I woke up to a very sore back and neck after yesterday's fall, so today I took it easy and grabbed a shot from my deck.
A year after the arson fire that destroyed our home, I went back to the same street we used to live on for a walk along the nearby creek. I certainly miss this beautiful corner of Penticton. (Shot with my phone.)
After many days of rain in Toronto, today there was finally some sunshine and with it an unbelievably vivid and saturated sunset.

Not far from Main Street Unionville lies beautiful Toogood Pond. The name, as you can see, is quite apt.
During the summer, the Penticton Channel fills with people on various floating devices. The high waters warnings and the impact on tourism are clear. An empty channel like this, even at sunset, is a rare sight.

Modern society is a complex game. We built it and it rewards us with many advantages. Safety, services, and products to name three. The game can become quite stressful if taken too seriously, however. Because all that complexity is hard to navigate. It is a relatively new invention and our ape-like brains are still struggling with it. More and more stressed people are finding that spending time in nature feels quiet and peaceful. You feel less stressed. You feel... at home.
It's always refreshing to wander into a completely new area in search of beautiful landscape features and be greeted by a herd of wild horses. These were many miles away from the ones I've photographed before. I feel that - in this landscape shot at least - they greatly add to the Wild West vibe of the image.
If you plan to visit Acadia National Park, make sure to spend some time exploring the #RocklandHarbor area as well because it is so beautiful and you will see many #sailboats.

This evening, the sky was filled with unusual, beautiful cloud formations. I decided to make this composition look as if the clouds and stars were streaming from the open trunk of the car, almost as if spirits or the very stars were being unleashed. Pearsonville Auto Salvage Yard, Mojave Desert, California. I used a handheld LED flashlight to illuminate the interior/exterior of the truck. We had these amazing clouds most of the evening, creating fantastic shapes with or without long exposures.
This is a real photo taken at night. Everything was illuminated by a big bright moon, an almost full moon, almost bright enough to read a book. And setting my tripod-mounted camera to a long exposure made the camera much more sensitive to light than our eyes on this already bright evening. This is why this photo seems brighter than what we might see at night. It is not due to post-processing. The moon, which reflects light from the sun, also makes the sky bluer, and when the photo is a long exposure photo, the sky will appear brighter, making the blue more apparent. I also illuminated the junkyard car with a handheld ProtoMachines LED2 flashlight while the camera shutter was open. This is not a post-processing creation. No pixels were harmed during the creation of this photo. :D

I should have stopped taking pictures after this shot. Instead, I drove to the lake to take more photos. As I got out of my car, I slipped on the ice and slammed on the concrete hard, hitting my back (and to a minor extent head). It destroyed my lens and my ND filters. All in all, $1,600 in damages and a very hurt back. Still, I'm grateful I can write about it.
Another shot from yesterday's trip to Lake Louise. The smooth water was achieved with a 4 minute exposure and stacking a 10-stop and a 4-stop ND filter.
Annie had her surgery today, so I headed out later than usual and only spent a few minutes shooting. Still, I like this moody shot quite a bit.

On Friday I got a new license plate. It's one of those BC Parks ones whose yearly fee helps support provincial parks and other protected areas. At $40/year, it's the minimum I can do to support these slices of heaven sprinkled throughout British Columbia. Secretly, I hope my photos might help promote them as well in some way.

Nature is the ultimate sculptor. My favorite scenes remain those that combine what nature and humans created together. The vineyard on the hill is likely Thomas Vineyard. I say likely because there are so many vineyards around here that it's actually hard to tell who owns a given piece of land. Other wineries this might belong to are Liquidity and Blue Mountain Vineyards.
