The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the summer months in places north of the Arctic Circle or south of the Antarctic Circle, when the sun remains visible at the local midnight. When the midnight sun is seen in the Arctic, the sun appears to move from left to right, but in Antarctica the equivalent apparent motion is from right to left.
This occurs at latitudes from 65° 44` to 90° north or south, and this doesn`t stop exatley at the Arctic Circle or the Antarctic Circle, due to refraction.

One of my favorite photos taken this year.
I kept moving from dune to dune looking for a nice ridge pointing toward the sunset and some great ripples to catch the light. I thought I was going to be too late when I spied this dune in the distance. Luckily, I made it to the top just in time to line everything up.
White Sands is a great little park, I hope to return soon and share it with
Kay.
Emerging from the Fog - (click to view full image) - We took a couple early morning boat rides through the Bayou. The first morning we experienced heavy fog. The fog cleared around this tree just long enough for me to take a photo. The lake was hauntingly beautiful.
Cropped in 16:9 and my latest background image for my desktop is this shot from Port Fairy. Such a beautiful town, one which I really enjoy visiting, not just for taking photos but for all the wonderful restaurants, cafe’s and pubs and activities on offer. Tried to limit the movements in the boats, although still get a nice reflections in the water with this long exposure.

The day was absolutely clear and crisp. Never have I seen the mountains this magnificent.
Eilean Donan is one of the most iconic castles in Scotland, recognised all over the world and it is situated on an island at the point where three lochs meet. I captured this photo during my last trip to Skye.

One example what can be done on a frosty morning with flat light: Open your apperature and spot some of nature's details. In this case some ice-covered flowers. Maybe someone can help me out with the name of this plant?

This was the last very good eclipse within the next ten years for central Europe. Moreover, the weather forecast seemed very well. OK, it was a little bit fresh (-4°C) but nothing good clothing can't handle. After a short while my tripod, camera and lenses were covered in frost. I burned three batteries in four hours. Hot tea and a morning-snack were very helpful as well.

We were driving back from doing some groceries in the evening and the sky was absolutely crazy. On fire in one spot, tornado-like in another, dark blue elsewhere. Unfortunately, the sky is fickle. There was no time to go home, unload groceries, grab my DSLR camera, and then go back to shoot this. So the best camera, as they say, is the one you have with you. In my case, my iPhone 6s Plus. I think it did a decent job despite its limitations. Nevertheless, I like to joke that the best camera is the one you left at home. 😂
How do you know corporations have taken over the world? When corporations like #Nike have acquired the tools to paint their company logo on the sky in the form of Aurora Borealis. 😁
