Kavalcare Solar System for Jhpiego Mid-Wife Clinic Dec8, 2014

Every year, 12,000 women in Pakistan die of birth complications. The Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Services Component, implemented by MCHIP/Jhpiego, aims at preventing maternal, newborn, and child deaths by ensuring skilled birth attendance (SBA) through a total market approach, empowered community, timely referral of obstetric and neonatal complications to an emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) facility, and improved access to child care.

Lack of electricity in remote areas is a major issue that often leads to obstetric complications and newborn deaths. Refrigerated storage is vital for the effectiveness of life saving drugs and vaccines. Ice boxes are used in remot areas of this purpose but it is an ineffective method especially when easy availability of ice is a problem. To overcome these issues, Lodhie Foundation in association with Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program/JHPIEGO, extended its Kavalcare program and provided a Solar Powered System to a remote clinic located at village Haji Usman Jhakro near Makli, District Thatta. System provides sufficient power to operate a small refrigerator, a fan and 3 lamps 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It was designed, manufactured and installed by Shaan Technologies private Limited Karachi. After installation of Solar System in August 2014, this small remote clinic is serving a community of 10,000 plus persons who lives in village Haji Usman and surrounding areas. On an average 10 patients visits this clinic each day. Clinic also provides up to 15 birth attendance and new born care in a month.

Aug. 29, 2013. Boston, MA.

Hundreds of fast-food workers demanding $15-an-hour wages, better benefits and the right to unionize picketed outside of nine chain restaurants, including Burger King, McDonald’s, and Dunkin’ Donuts, and ended at a rally on Boston Common at which U.S. Senator Markey, Boston City Council members, and mayoral candidates spoke. Thousands of workers across the country joined in the one day strike. Over 3.6 million people work at more than 200,000 fast-food restaurants. They are paid about $9 an hour, on average — often with no benefits and irregular schedules.

not your average, ordinary bakery

SAN ANTONIO -- Skins of animals and hooves nailed to a tree, those were just some of the bizarre things found right next to a bakery. When code-compliance officers arrived they noticed a number of things that didn't look right. That included around 15 animals in the back of the business.

We spotted several birds, a dog and turtle behind the West Side building. We also saw where animals had clearly been killed and left outside.

When News 4 WOAI asked Jesse Mercado, the owner of Celia’s Bakery, about what was going on, he explained “this is part of the religion, you need to eat the animals, you need to eat it."

Mercado says the religion is called Yoruba, and it's similar to voodoo. When we were out there, he demonstrated some of the rituals that are part of his religion.

He told us he’s “capable to cure anybody with cancer, any disease."

Mercado practices in the building next to the bakery. And inside that building a cat head.

However, Mercado says, "I don't have nothing to do with cat."

There had been complaints of animal abuse, drug activity, and prostitution. Code compliance found sick animals in the bakery next door, bad wiring throughout the building and a mattress in the vacant building on the end.

Savita Rai, who's with the city says, "It's been alleged that occupants of that building, the building at the end, will rent out a little mattress in the back for prostitutes, uh, to apply their trade."

Mercado is not facing any charges for that. But he was arrested on animal cruelty charges. And for now the place has been shut down.

“Beware the average man, the average woman,

Beware their love, their love is average;

seeks average.

But there is genius in their hatred.

There is enough genius in their hatred to kill you,

to kill anybody.

Not wanting solitude;

not understanding solitude,

they will attempt to destroy anything

that differs from their own.

Not being able to create art,

they will not understand art.

They will consider their failure as creators,

only as a failure of the world.”

St. Helens was established as a river port on the Columbia River in the 1840s. In 1853, the Pacific Mail Steamship Company tried to make the city their only stop on the Columbia River.[7] Portland's merchants boycotted this effort, and the San Francisco steamship Peytona helped break the impasse.[7]

St. Helens was incorporated as a city in 1889.[8]

The Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through and camped in the area that is now St. Helens on the night of November 5, 1805 while on their way to the Pacific Ocean. While here the party encountered Native Americans and Clark observed "low rockey clifts".[9]

SPECS average speed camera systems utilises a video system with Automatic Number Plate Reading (ANPR) digital technology. These cameras are each fitted with infra red illuminators, fitted on gantries above the road, so they can work day or night.

Each speed camera records a date and time stamp. Then, by ANPR, the computer can work out your average speed between the cameras with photographic evidence that you were speeding between the cameras.

These speed cameras also record your number plate and issue you a speeding ticket if you were speeding along the average speed controlled stretch of road.

Mostly loathed by drivers they can be seen mostly on Dual Carriageways or Motorways - or Nottinghamshire who use them extensively.

They are seen as 'policing on the cheap' as no human intervention is needed. The downside for the motorist is that they are unaware that they has broken the speed limit until a fine arrives through the post some days or weeks later.

Of course, the camera doesnt know who was driving so the owner of the car gets the ticket.
