Late November in Newhall Valley Country Park, on a lovely morning. Not this year, but last. Marnie and I love it here, everyone is so friendly and so are their dogs... a big bonus ! The path runs right by the stream.

Le bateau WB Yeats of Irish Ferries finishes her journey from Cherbourg while for others, its just the start of their journey on a chilly morning in October towards the end of the Great South Wall, all that fresh Irish Sea air, oh la la.
WB Yeats was constructed by German shipbuilder Flensburger & delivered (albeit late ) in December 2018 & will be primarily used on the Dublin-Cherbourg route, upgrading the route from the current economy Epsilon service.
194 meters long, nearly 32 meters wide, comparable with the mighty Ulysses on the Dublin-Holyhead route but has far more cabin space given the longer crossing to France.
A total capacity of 1,885 passengers and crew, with 435 individual passenger cabins in various combinations.

Matka Canyon lies just half an hour from Skopje, yet here it feels like a quiet world entirely its own. The Treska River glides gently between steep limestone walls, while the water forms an almost perfect mirror for the autumn colours along the shore. At the centre of the scene stands a solitary tree glowing in warm golden tones — a small island of colour beautifully reflected in the deep, still water. The light falling between the cliffs softens the rugged landscape and gives everything a calm, almost painterly atmosphere. Here, everything revolves around silence, space and harmony: the vertical rock faces rising above the river, the subtle ripples on the surface, and the gentle shift from green to gold on the canyon slopes. Further ahead, the gorge narrows into shadow, as if inviting you to look deeper, further into the landscape. Hidden behind the bends of this canyon lies the mysterious Vrelo Cave — accessible only by boat and known as one of the deepest underwater cave systems in the world. But in this moment, Matka tells above all this story: a single tree standing in full light, surrounded by rock, water and stillness, at the point where the canyon reveals its most serene face.

Matka Canyon ligt op slechts een half uur van Skopje, maar voelt hier als een stille wereld die losstaat van alles eromheen. De rivier Treska glijdt rustig tussen de steile kalkstenen wanden door, terwijl het water een bijna perfecte spiegel vormt voor de herfstkleuren langs de oever. Helemaal in het midden staat een eenzame boom in warme goudtinten — een klein eiland van kleur dat zich prachtig weerspiegelt in het diepe, donkere water. De lichtval tussen de rotsen verzacht het ruige landschap en geeft het geheel een kalme, bijna schilderachtige uitstraling. Alles draait hier om stilte, ruimte en harmonie: de verticale wanden die omhoogrijzen, het zachte rimpelen van het water, en de rustige overgang van groen naar goud op de hellingen. De canyon strekt zich verderop smal en schaduwrijk uit, alsof hij je uitnodigt om verder te kijken, dieper de natuur in. Verscholen achter de bochten van deze kloof ligt ook de mysterieuze Vrelo-grot — alleen per boot bereikbaar en bekend als één van de diepste onderwatergrotten ter wereld. Maar op dit moment vertelt Matka vooral dit verhaal: een enkele boom die in vol licht staat, omringd door rots, water en stilte, precies op het punt waar de canyon zijn meest serene gezicht laat zien.
