Thanks to Nicolas Meunier the amazing photographer who took this photo for the magazine.

An Industrial Automaton product, the SE8 waiter droid was a humanoid servant droid designed to deliver refreshments. Illuminated indicators on the droid's glossy black torso changed color to denote drink specials, and the SE8 was capable of weaving through crowds with state-of-the-art gyroscopic systems and programming to help them avoid collisions with customers and guests.

Louis Pasteur didn't just mess around with germs, he also built and sold automatons, he has just finished tuning the gears on this scout steamikoma. It primarily saw action in the conflicts between France and the enemy of the free world Muscovy, although rumour has it that some of these contraptions have found their way into the ranks of the British Empire too....

Hyundai Commission: Phillippe Parreno. Anywhen.

Anywhen is a site-specific exhibition that changes throughout the day and that will evolve during the six-month period of the commission. The exhibition is conceived as an automaton which guides the public through a constantly changing play of moving elements, light configurations and sound environments. The artist states that ‘the exhibition is a construction of situations or sequences in a non-linear narrative’.

The commission responds to the Turbine Hall’s position at the centre of the museum, an open space connected to the city itself. The artist combines aspects of chance and control: the sequences of events are triggered by software which is informed by micro-organisms. These react to and activate elements of the commission through a bioreactor visible at the far end of the Turbine Hall.

It's not for me.

"Sting. That's a good name!"

Based upon this scene from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

I was recently commissioned by Forrestfire101 to do a series of Hobbit themed photos for his latest project, a series of videos designed to look like a LEGO Hobbit first-person video game. This photo was featured in the first of these videos, which can be seen here. More photos will be posted as their related videos come out.

Hope you enjoy!

Also, just realized that this is my 300th photo on Flickr! Yay! :)

Happy Independence Day, everyone!

I decided to take a trip to the Shire to see Gandalf's celebratory fireworks show. It was quite the spectacle!

Not too pleased with this photo, had another in mind but it didn't work out in time. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

"The Yelivian Empire is a highly advanced civilization that has harnessed the power of electricity to create an army of giant mechanical soldiers.

These particular units are called 'Bishop'. They are enormous cannon-like machines that mix various chemicals to create a volatile projectile that acts much like a water balloon. The thin membrane breaks when it hits the ground and the chemical mix is released, then explodes when it mixes with oxygen. They are also armed with a rack of rockets that detonate in mid-air and release tiny spiked balls that can pierce plate armor.

These units require the protection of Rooks because the tanks on their bellies are unarmored and the units themselves are much more fragile than their sturdier counterparts. With the protection of Rooks, being hit by trebuchet or ballistae becomes nearly impossible."

One of the eerie automaton branch of the Dollies, supposedly born out of Aigara's influence, this Zollie just seemed to appear out of nowhere one day in the middle of a very foggy forest. Camouflaged by that fog, her nature wasn't actually identified and only creepy tales about a tall, weird-moving creature in the forest began to rise up in the near cities. Tales reinforced when disappearances started to follow such sightings.

Another pic taken with a Cellular Automaton Camera app known as ca-mera. An iphone app.

The first of Doctor Godel's automatons was remarkably powerful, but was hampered by slow computation.

Thanks to Carson Hart for inspiring me!

The photo is in black & white because the drawings in the book are back & white.

Try to find all the little details! ;)

See www.flickr.com/photos/automaton-design/2212241119/ for the original drawing I used. Gabby Moore is the artist not me.

Its about 10" high by about 11" wide on a 17" x 17" piece of white cotton.

The spider legs are coloured in with a bit of Crayola and Prang crayons so you can see them a bit better. The banner is filled with seed stitches. Its all done in 2 strands of floss except for the hairy parts of the legs which are done in 4 strands.

I am happy with the way it came out and I am glad I kept the American spelling of honor (instead of honour) because I would have had to make the letters smaller to fit . Plus I had already used the marker on it so I was stuck with the lettering :)

I made a LEGO automaton, the skier and the marmot.

You can see it working in this video : youtu.be/Se5qkdyX0zY

"There's one thing that I can't understand, bro.

I wonder if it is really a camouflage cover or the machine just started to grow its own garden on the back."

- RaZeR in conversation with Deus aka "Agent Vult"

Basically "Overseer" utilizes a digital movie camera design from the twenty-first century to emphasize its near-to-useless efficiency in combat and agony of modern mankind at the gate of nuclear warfare. Nevertheless, it's still dangerous for free mercenaries to provoke visual or noise sensors of A71 since Ftolz The Celestial had control under remaining robots in his hands.

Another rendering + additional info about A71.

Model on Mecabricks.

The very first attempt of Eruei to build Aigara's personal automaton, its programming was defective, turning out so problematic that the Great Being was forced to leave his laboratory. Aigara and the Marendar Units arrived thousands of years later while searching for her father, and she discovered about the other Dolls after meeting this model. Her powers managed to affect the conduct problems of the Doll and Aigara made friends her, yet it decided to not leave the laboratory.

*Debatable.

Lúc "Starkiller" Carrigan was an Irish farmer who found his life changed forever when the unexpected arrival of a pair of Automatons led him to Princess Áine and the struggle of the United Rebellion. Lúc's training under the reclusive alchemist Benjamin Knightley and his studies in the mercurial forces led to his successful destruction of the Queen's powerful "Death Star" dirigible, earning him the nickname "Starkiller".

His clockwork automaton, C2-A2, has been said to have been around before the times of the Imperial Wars, and proves to be a valuable asset to the United Rebellion's ongoing battle against the British Empire.

Built for an upcoming entry to FBTB's MOC Madness 2014.

First Doll that Aigara met (besides her sisters), this one of the first automatons Eruei created drived her creator out of his first laboratory. The once shy and aggresive Doll became the stepping stone for Aigara's resolution of finding all the Dolls her father created.

Inspired by JK Brickworks, Pegasus Automation by Amida Na, and Laputa: Castle in the Sky music box by Hwang Byeong Jun.

Die Dose is a defense automaton produced by prussian industries. Very efficient on earth or even in aether. It comes with several interchangeable arms such as standard claw, steamolite raygun or chainsaw. Its only inconvenient is that you've got to rewind it by hand.

A highlight of the Bowes Museum. An 18th century swan automaton that catches fish in a "stream". Unfortunately out of it's case for maintenance during our visit.

An automaton from the dead Ketfah civilization, the Ketfah Guardian is one of the twenty-or-so Guardians built to protect sacred temples.
