First recorded in 1774, the Silver Swan was a crowd puller in the Mechanical Museum of James Cox, a London jeweller and entrepreneur. The internal mechanism was designed by John Joseph Merlin, a famous inventor of the time.
In the mid-19th century its then owner, Harry Emanuel, exhibited it at the Paris International Exhibition.
John and Josephine Bowes saw the Silver Swan while attending the Exhibition in 1867 and fell in love with it.
They contacted the seller, a Parisian jeweller named M. Briquet, and John paid £200 (approx. £20,000 today) for the Swan in 1872, a bargain for such a remarkable and rare object.
Daily performances at 2pm.

Playing around a bit more with Mrs. Scratchen-Post's hair, this time merged with Gandalf's beard for more accurate hair. Not too pleased with the background, but I still think it's okay.
Hope you enjoyed!
Sentient Automaton built for aerial combat and swift air-to-ground strikes. Salvo attacks using relentless volleys of seeker rockets and jet powered slashes with its wing blades. Salvo's agile flight capabilities make it incredibly difficult to target, making up for its lack of armor. Calypte Salvo's aerial superiority make it a perfect complement for ground units such as Lucanus Sentinel and Zelus Maestro.
Build Notes:
I'm having a lot fun with these builds. Salvo was built over about four hours. I've been wanting to use pink in a MOC for years, so it was pretty satisfying to put all those D.Va pieces to use. Even though Salvo does not have feet, it can balance without a stand, but that limits how it can pose. As with the other two automatons, Calypte Salvo is named after an animal genus. In this case, it's a hummingbird.
The Year is 1872 - England is a battlefield.
From within the smoking hulk of Parliament a woman has (literally) fought her way to the top.
As the New Prime Minister of England Lady Margo Hatchet seeks to quell the rebellious Unions of the North.
The Proletariat are revolting (at least that is what she says), and the "Iron Lady" is intent on once more making Britain "Great" but this time with herself as Commander in Chief and a puppet Monarch to rubber stamp her authority. Privilege and Wealth must be restored at all costs.
Fighting in campaigns all the way from the tin mines of Cornwall to the ever precious Coal Faces deep underground in Newcastle, Lady Margo has never been bested in combat.
Her Hard-Skirt armour protects her from most attacks and she is deadly with the weapons available to her. Preferring to mix it at close quarters she lets her clock work automaton Goliath soften up opponents before she sweeps in for the coup de grace.
Lady Margo is armed with twin powerfists, knuckle duster, The holy sword of Westminster and a Titanium Cricket Bat gifted to her by W. G. Grace himself from the Long Room Armory at Lords
Inspiration - you guessed it the real Iron Lady. Baroness Margaret Thatcher who has recently passed away. Englands one and only female Prime Minister.

"I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me! A day may come when the courage of men fails! But it is not this day! A day may come when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship! But it is not this day! An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand! Men of the West!"

Here is my R5-D4, also known as Red. One of the last droids produced in the low cost Industrial Automaton R5 line.
This year the FFF+ Group have decided to have a monthly challenge called "Freestyle On The Fifth". A different theme chosen by a member of the group each month, and the image is to be posted on the 5th of the month.
This month the theme, "bird" was chosen by Beverley (www.flickr.com/photos/137349496@N06/).
This is my first invitation to participate in "Freestyle On The Fifth", so I would just like to thank the FFF+ Group for allowing me to add my photos to the pool.
This final third entry was inspired by the "L'Air du Temps" Lalique perfume bottle which stands before the mirror. It was the very first collectible I ever bought with my own money at an auction house. I saw it sitting on a shelf beneath a spotlight and I just loved the elegant bird stopper. Nina Ricci's most famous perfume, "L'Air du Temps", created in France in 1948, means "Air of Time". French glass designer René Jules Lalique designed the iconic avian bottle stopper.
So the lady whose dressing table this is must love birds because she has a number of avian themed items sitting on it.
In addition to the Nina Ricci "L'Air du Temps" Lalique perfume bottle, she has a beautiful eighteen carat and seed pearl lovers swallow brooch from 1914. It comes in its original box. It must have been a gift to her from her sweetheart; perhaps a soldier from the trenches in Flanders Fields, given to her as a token of love and a reminder of him whilst she waited for him to come home. I wonder if he did?
The bird in the cage is obviously not real. It is a French Regency automaton clock from the 1820s. When wound, the bird shakes itself from side to side and serves as the minute hand on the clock as it works itself around the circumference of the cage. The hand that moves around the centre is the hour hand of the clock. The clock itself is made of brass, which was very fashionable in the Regency period. Considering its age, it keeps remarkably good time and loses only around a minute a day.
So here we have my "Bird Lady's Dressing Table" entry.
"Soulmates".. "Flickr Friday".. A pair of novelty singing dogs and yes they do sing "Singing in the rain"..
Amazing builder, Walton F. Wainwright, created an amazing stage with what looks to be like a chapel, a library, and a steaming birthday cake all rolled into one huge monument. Don't miss this one in the back and well worth the trek after listening to one of the talks

Story:
Princess Peony was a protagonist in a small children book. She wanted to grow as a character, so she convinced the Author to let her take part in more and more dangerous adventures. Her bravery and wit won the hearts of young readers, making her the most famous little princess in the world. Along the way she found new friends, learned kung-fu and received a truly impenetrable plot armor. Now she has to constantly chase away hordes of evil Automatons, even before breakfast. This is not a character arc she had imagined.

Automatons in one of the rooms of the Bradbury Building in that excellent Blade Runner sim.
I suppose we're not so different, ultimately, those manufactured things and me.
Except for this ghost in my machine.

War for steam-o-lite is raging on the Red Planet. A peripheral base of the Empire is in turmoil: Her Majesty's brave soldiers are running to defend their position.
Sentient Automaton specializing in holographic illusions and melee combat. Phantasm darts in and out of sight, swiftly striking with its burning plasma chains before disappearing behind like a ghost. Phantasm is equipped with two hologram projectors that allow it to create illusory copies of itself or mask the environment in false images. If Phantasm loses control of the environment, it can recall its projectors and retract its chains to make a speedy getaway.
Build Notes: Here's another one! I incorporated Salvo's original weapons (the chains) into a frame with a better suited color palette. The main gimmick for this one was going to be something very different, but I wasn't liking the direction the build was heading. So now we have little projector plates that attach to its back! The frame of this one is probably the least unique of all the Automatons so far (it's basically Salvo with Maestro's legs), but it is very flexible and sturdy. The name for this one (Echis) is a genus of Viper. Still have some ideas for more automatons, so I'll probably keep making them until I run out of colors, parts, or ideas.
Sentient Combat Automaton specializing in long range sniping and marksmanship. Aquila Omen rarely enters the battlefield, instead striking from a safe distance using its Sniper Arm. It's rifle uses special Phase-Tech bullets that can phase through all obstacles between Omen and its target. The scope on Omen's arm can switch between IR and X-ray modes, making it nearly impossible to hid from Omen's piercing shots. Omen is not suited for close combat, instead relying on support from other Vanguard automatons such is Bolide to protect it. Omen is particular calm in its demeanor. It is often seen staring at trees, birds, and flowers with an almost human-like sense of wonder.
Build notes;
Another quick build. This one only took a few hours to put together. I tried scaling down my standard Vanguard frame for Omen's torso and legs, and I am really happy with the result. I feel this one has a bit more personality than some of the others. Since Omen is so small, it poses really well. Also, the clip on the sniper rifle can be removed. And... teal parts! yay! I finally got a chance to use this rare color! What fun. Now, time to get back to those bonkle builds I've been putting off.
Thanks to my brother Automaton Pictures for some help on the editing, and to delgax for his constant inspiration and original "corridor" concept. Complete credit for the idea goes to him. Hope you enjoyed!

I think this shot turned out okay, but I'm pleased with the way that Orcrist looks (It was accomplished by modifying one of these in PS).

Neurologically Operated Refrigerated Automaton, or N.O.R.A. was meant to be Victor's solution to both preserving his beloved wife, and allowing her to continue to function in the world while he could focus on finding her a cure. Only the years as a human snow cone and constant battles Batman have not been kind to Nora. While technically still alive, her body and mind have suffered extensive tissue damage, and she can no longer control N.O.R.A. Instead Victor has taken over the controls. Now outfitted with a mammoth freeze cannon, hurling pissed off polar bears, and a doomsday failsafe that will trigger a cataclysmic nuclear winter, N.O.R.A. Will become the vehicle of Victor's ultimate revenge against Batman and a world whose heart has grown cold.
My entry for FBTB's Mech Madness 2012
Just trying a few things out with the Unikitty fig in PS.
Sorry for the lack of uplaods lately, I've been on vacation.
Hope you enjoyed!
Edit: Re-added the blue iris to the eyes, I think it looks better this way.
So, I kinda went wild this time... ^^;
Bird-person, Lizard-person, Beast-person, Imp, Demon
Gunslinger, Duelist, Alchemist, Sorceress, Mage, Wanderer, Automaton
Ninja, Paladin, Witch, Guardsman, Rogue
Automaton seen in the Church of St Pancras also known as the Cathedral of the Moor. At Widecombe-in-the-Moor. This Dartmoor song is one of the best known folksongs in England and can be found all over the world.
A steampunky, elk-like automaton; I posed myself three objectives for this MOC: convey a rusty aesthetic, combine many different textures, and integrate Bionicle elements (something I've wanted to do for a long time but never had the right project for.)
Based on the last scene of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Hope you enjoyed!

Divine Automaton responsible for enforcing the Pantheon’s will. Carries a large gavel and a set of scales.
First part of my Biocup R2 entry.
I originally intended to include the wings, but they didn’t work as well in the final group shot.
Based on the scene from Return of the King . I'm not entirely satisfied with the result, so I may post a better version later.
Sentient combat automaton built to deal as much damage as it takes. Sentinel's kinetic shields channel the energy of incoming attacks into its two rapid fire cannons, increasing the force behind each blast. While it lacks speed, Sentinel's impressive defensive and offensive capabilities should not be underestimated.
Build notes: I had so much fun building Zelus Maestro that I decided to build another automaton in the same style. I've really been wanting to use those vehicle base pieces for a while, and I'm glad I finally found a spot for them on a build. The horns on the head and shell-like armor plating reminded me of a stag beetle, hence the "lucanus" part of the name. Not intentionally ripping off the Plague Mech series, but we're starting to head that way.
