There's something cute about a robot that wears an earring, even if it doesn't have ears. Seen at Manchester's Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI).

My new cover photo! This is a revamp of this photo. I still think Legolas is a bit too bright, so I'll probably replace it later.

As you may have guessed, I love backlighting and silhouettes. I based this pic off of this promotional pic for The Fellowship of the Ring.

Hope you enjoyed!

The Doll Museum in the Rocca of Angera was founded in 1988 by the wish of Princess Bona Borromeo Arese, and displays over a thousand dolls made between the 18th century and the present day.

The dolls, which are displayed inside furnished dolls’ houses and miniature shops, are made of all kinds of material, including wood, wax, papier-mâché, china and cloth.

In addition to the wealth of period and contemporary dolls on display, which places the Museum among the most important in Europe in this sector, there is also a section devoted to toys from non-European cultures as well as a collection of 19th century French and German automatons from the collection of the Petit Musée du Costume of Tours.

Sentient Combat Automaton specializing in long range sniping and marksmanship. Aquila Omen rarely enters the battlefield, instead striking from a safe distance using its Sniper Arm. It's rifle uses special Phase-Tech bullets that can phase through all obstacles between Omen and its target. The scope on Omen's arm can switch between IR and X-ray modes, making it nearly impossible to hid from Omen's piercing shots. Omen is not suited for close combat, instead relying on support from other Vanguard automatons such is Bolide to protect it. Omen is particular calm in its demeanor. It is often seen staring at trees, birds, and flowers with an almost human-like sense of wonder.

Build notes;

Another quick build. This one only took a few hours to put together. I tried scaling down my standard Vanguard frame for Omen's torso and legs, and I am really happy with the result. I feel this one has a bit more personality than some of the others. Since Omen is so small, it poses really well. Also, the clip on the sniper rifle can be removed. And... teal parts! yay! I finally got a chance to use this rare color! What fun. Now, time to get back to those bonkle builds I've been putting off.

Hi everyone! Sorry I'm posting this late, I didn't have time yesterday to get it up to Flickr. I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving!

Character Creation

Robotman (Clifford "Cliff" Steele, called Automaton in first two appearances) is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He is best known as a member of the Doom Patrol, being the only character to appear in every version of the team since its introduction in June 1963.

Robotman has appeared in numerous television series. Robotman made his first live adaptation as a guest star on the Titans television series for DC Universe played by Jake Michaels. Riley Shanahan took over from Michaels in the role. He is part of the main cast of its spin-off Doom Patrol which is also on Max. Brendan Fraser provides the voice of Robotman and portrays Cliff Steele in flashbacks in the series.

Publication history

Robotman first appeared in My Greatest Adventure #80 (June 1963) and was created by Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiani. According to Drake, the issue's co-writer Bob Haney was not brought on to the project until after Robotman was created. He commented on the character's original name, Automaton:

That name was pretty stupid. I've been responsible for a lot of stupid things, but that was one of the stupidest, so, within two issues, I figured that out and changed his name to Robotman.

At the time, Drake didn't realize that there had been a previous character named Robotman, published in 1942-1953 during the Golden Age of Comic Books. DC's previous Robotman also had a human brain.

Robotman was the only original member of the Doom Patrol to appear with the team's second incarnation, which debuted in Showcase #94-96 (August 1977-January 1978). The reboot was accompanied by Robotman getting a new body, which was designed by artist Joe Staton at writer Paul Kupperberg's request. Kupperberg explained:

I was looking to update the strip, I suppose, [and] wanted to put my mark on it. There was nothing wrong with the original body designed by Bruno Premiani. In fact, ain't no one come up with a better design. Like the team's roster, I should have left that alone, too.

Staton said he patterned Robotman's new body after a young John Byrne's fanzine contribution (Contemporary Pictorial Literature) of the robot character Rog-2000 "as a joke".

Fictional Character History

Clifford "Cliff" Steele was an obsessive daredevil. He engaged in every extreme sporting event imaginable. Everything from spelunking to race car driving. He climbed the Himalayan Mountains, rafted down the Amazon River, and spent six months living in a tribal African village. At one point in his career, Cliff became involved in the NASCAR circuit.

He became a professional racecar driver and participated in the Indianapolis 500. The Indy 500 proved to be Cliff's final race however. During the race, his car slid through an oil slick and toppled over. The car exploded irrevocably destroying Cliff's body, but leaves his brain intact. Dr. Niles Caulder saves Cliff Steele's brain and implants it in a robotic body. Unfortunately, one of the contacts to his brain comes loose, resulting in a criminal Robotman pursued by the police. Ultimately, Robotman is taken in by the Doom Patrol, and has his brain fixed.

Character Evolution Silver Age

Robotman stays with the Doom Patrol until they are killed by General Zahl, defending Codsville, Maine. During his stay with the Doom Patrol, he exhibits a number of superpowers, most prominently super strength, super endurance and magnetic feet. He is able to rip off his limbs to use for various things - for example, climbing a wall using his magnetic soles. Several years later, it was discovered that Robotman's brain had survived, though his original robot body had been destroyed. Will Magnus, creator of the Metal Men, builds Cliff a new body.

Cliff joins with a new Doom Patrol led by a woman claiming to be the Chief's widow Celsius. During this time period, he meets up with former Patroller Beast Boy, who has since joined the Teen Titans. The two hunt down Madame Rouge and General Zahl, who helped kill the original Doom Patrol. During the confrontation, Zahl is killed when his bullets ricochet off of Robotman's chassis.

Modern Age

The new Doom Patrol is ended during the Invasion!, which leaves Celsius dead, and Rhea Jones in a coma. Following this, Cliff voluntarily commits himself to a mental institution, angered at the loss of his teammates and his condition. In particular, he mourns the loss of his senses, which, as a robot, he no longer has.

Caulder sends Magnus to introduce Cliff to someone who has worse troubles than he: a mentally ill woman with 64 split personalities called Crazy Jane. Cliff becomes Jane's guardian, and eventually falls in love with her. The two become part of a new Doom Patrol, once again led by Caulder.

Cliff was rebooted, in this new reality Cliff is member of Doom Patrol along with Caulder, Negative Man and Elasti-Girl. He started relationship with Elasti-Girl.

During the Blackest Night, Cliff goes up against his human body, which has risen as a Black Lantern. The skull cap of the body is gone, revealing an empty head. The Black Lanterns are destroyed when the Patrol tricks them into following them through a Boom Tube style gate, directly in the center of a fight involving the JLA.

Powers and Abilities

Cybernetic Enhancement Cliff's original mechanical body possessed superhuman strength, speed, and endurance. It was also equipped with electromagnetic feet that enabled him to scale metal walls, heating coils in his hands then enabled him to melt metals, an oxygen tank that could sustain his brain in an emergency, and a video communicator strapped to his chest that allowed Caulder to maintain contact with the team in the field, complete with visual information. Later bodies have featured various other functions, such as tools and weapons systems.

Ancient automaton who follows dark biddings.

Feels like I haven't built something steamy in ages... as much as I love stampunk, this is definitely not my comfort zone. This one was a true exercise in patience, haven't built something so fiddly since the davinci tank I believe.

Geomancer reflecting: I'm not even a living thing. I don't eat, don't drink nor even breathe. I'm merely an automaton Kagrenac created.

Just took a quick photo to commemorate Age of Ultron's US release this weekend.

I actually got the chance to see the film yesterday, and liked it more than the first Avengers. The story was great, the characters felt more fleshed out, and the action sequences were spectacular. This scene in particular was probably my most anticipated part, and ended up being among my favorites. All in all, I really enjoyed the film, and hope to get more of the associated sets soon.

Hope you enjoyed!

Sentient Automaton specializing in holographic illusions and melee combat. Phantasm darts in and out of sight, swiftly striking with its burning plasma chains before disappearing behind like a ghost. Phantasm is equipped with two hologram projectors that allow it to create illusory copies of itself or mask the environment in false images. If Phantasm loses control of the environment, it can recall its projectors and retract its chains to make a speedy getaway.

Build Notes: Here's another one! I incorporated Salvo's original weapons (the chains) into a frame with a better suited color palette. The main gimmick for this one was going to be something very different, but I wasn't liking the direction the build was heading. So now we have little projector plates that attach to its back! The frame of this one is probably the least unique of all the Automatons so far (it's basically Salvo with Maestro's legs), but it is very flexible and sturdy. The name for this one (Echis) is a genus of Viper. Still have some ideas for more automatons, so I'll probably keep making them until I run out of colors, parts, or ideas. Still need to make a name for the series... Vanguard perhaps?

Amazing builder, Walton F. Wainwright, created an amazing stage with what looks to be like a chapel, a library, and a steaming birthday cake all rolled into one huge monument. Don't miss this one in the back and well worth the trek after listening to one of the talks. A wonderful addition next to the Makati Slade cake

Based upon the scenes from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. I tried to replicate the twilight/ring effect here, and am pretty pleased with the result.

Hope you all had a great Christmas! I was fortunate enough to receive the Lonely Mountain set, and I'm really enjoying the included Smaug!

Also, I'm sorry for the shortage of uploads lately. School's been keeping me busy, but I should be able to crank out a few more photos by the end of winter break.

Hope you enjoyed!

Built for the #BioCup2022. Theme: Nature.

Never built a Vic Viper before - always been intimidated by the quality of the stuff put out by other builders during NoVVember. Decided I had to give it a go, and this was the result.

Getting their drop-off right was sure to be a hefty task. Drunk yet again, the pilots swung their landing craft onto the isle of G.

G was an island found to be infested by kobolds, dragonflies and all sorts of weird amphibic creatures. Luckily, preliminary scan readings showed rich underground deposits of crude oil scattered throughout.

Knowing their salt mining process and their liquids, Tequilatron engineers were quick to reassemble parts of their vessel to create a hovering drilling station. What better way to cause an extinction event than a major oil spillage?

Wreak havoc!

This photo was inspired by this scene from An Unexpected Journey.

I managed to pick up the little Dol Guldur set and the new Lake-town tower/bridge at my local Target the other day, and have been relatively pleased with them. I love this Witch-King minifig, he's detailed and very photogenic.

I built this odd little automaton while on vacation over the summer. I wanted to get some artistic shots of it at the beach, but it was too dark.

Also, picture left uncropped due to artistic preference.

Happy Easter everyone!

Not too pleased with the way this photo turned out, but I wanted to get something up for Easter. This was somewhat based off of this photo. I apologize for the lack of uploads lately, I've been pretty busy. I'll try to upload as much as possible!

Credit for Bilbo's torso decal goes to the incredible lego3x11l. Many thanks to Ewokologist for lending me the dragon used in the image!

For this photo, I tried to get a subtle ring "twilight" effect with soft focus and desaturation. I could have done more blur, but while that would have been more film-accurate, it obscured the image.
