There's a lot of new buildings tucked down the back of the Paddington Basin if you're prepared to walk down there. It's dead on the weekends and the security guards don't seem to care about people wandering around with large telescopic lenses :-)

Basilica Cistern
Istanbul, Turkey
The Basilica Cistern is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul (formerly Constantinople), Turkey. The cistern, located 500 feet (150 m) southwest of the Hagia Sophia on the historical peninsula of Sarayburnu, was built in the 6th century during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I.
The enlarged cistern provided a water filtration system for the Great Palace of Constantinople and other buildings on the First Hill, and continued to provide water to the Topkapi Palace after the Ottoman conquest in 1453 and into modern times.

Puig i Cadalfach's building is also known as the Casa de les Punxes (House of the Spikes), because of its sharply pointed gables and towers. Built between 1903 and 1905, its clearly Modernist style is most evident in the floral sculptures on the façade, the use of red brick and in some of its Central European Gothic features. It was completely renovated at the end of the 1980s, but remains closed to public at present.

Built in 1877 in the "Second Empire" style, the Chippewa County Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. This architectural style, with a mansard roof and square-based tower was common in the 1800s.
John Scott, the architect, designed this building, giving it two-foot thick stones walls, and a tower that is fronted by a statue of "Justice".
