Patio Gig
The Tim Farrel Band had an "acoustic" gig at Lazy Chameleon tonight. I drove the Golf and realized when I arrived that I did not have a mask. Fortunately Tim had a few disposable masks so he was able to give me one. I sang "Maggie May", "Laid", and "Surrender" and Tim was really excited by my performance. He broke a string so I let him use my Gibson Hummingbird AG (I brought both an acoustic and a bass because I didn't know what to expect) for the rest of the show. He loved the way it played!
Joker
Harper is sitting next to me on the couch while Julie and I watch "Joker"
I took Julie to the chiropractor after I got off work then we had dinner at Texas Roadhouse before coming home to watch "Joker".
Any Hole Is My Goal
Another Open Stage Night at Last Call. I am fortunate enough to be part of the house band every other Thursday. Richie Baer and his wife showed up so he and a couple other guys got up and played during the Open Stage part. I stuck to beer but there were some shots...
I ended up closing the bar and texting Chris and Jeff a lot when I got home...and resumed drinking...
Earlier today was Julie's second round of Orthovisc shots. Just like last week, we went to Borgata for lunch after her treatment.
Scratch
So, I scratched my hand on the corner of the counter in the kitchen when I was moving stuff around. I hardly felt it when it happened but I know in a day or so it is going to look terrible. That's what happens to people of my age.
Julie was tested for COVID-19 today. It is a weird drive through situation on campus. It went really quick and they called her with results later this afternoon. She is COVID-19 negative.
Waiting
I didn't do much today. I went to Advance Auto Parts to get some oil for the GTI then I met Rico at Lucky's before picking up Julie.
Open Stage House Band
Me, Daren, and Chris at Last Call as 3/4 of the house band for their Open Stage night. I thought we would be canceled if the curfew was in place like my Saturday night gig was canceled. Alas, they were open and we were on. Sadly, I did not get to rehearse the songs as much as I should have so I was sloppy as hell. However, we had a few moments and we had lots of fun. I will be doing this every other Thursday (alternating with my Tim Ferral Band at Local Roots gig) through the summer or until they tell me to hit the road. This was my first time meeting and playing with Darren and Jeff Robert (drummer).
Julie called off work due to a migraine so we had lunch at Roosters.
Foggy Glasses
I shoveled the driveway since it snowed all night.
Our first dog obedience class was cancelled due to the snow.
We had a Wetterauer Lunch at BRAVO! Crossroads. That location is closing tomorrow so Mary wanted to have one last meal there with the family. We were able to order from the full menu instead of have a family-style meal.
Julie and I were going to go Rico's wife's surprise party at Lucky's then stop at Steve and Bethany's party. But, while we were driving the GTI started shaking terribly when we got up to speed. I thought maybe it was the ice and snow build up in the wheel wells so I pulled over and cleared them out. We got on the freeway and it started again so I turned around and headed home. We decided not to go out. After texting both Rico and Steve it was suggested that maybe ice and snow had built up in some of the rims throwing the wheels out of balance. I didn't think about that! I will check the wheels tomorrow and hopefully that is all that is wrong.

The winter weather 2023 has been unusually varied in Stockholm. Some days almost like spring, next day a mighty return of the winter. During the night and morning of March 8 we got over 30 centimeters of snow, as seen on the roof of my little greenhouse, from having none the week before. Strong winds blow most of the snow off from bushes, trees and hedges, so they weren't damaged as they were in a similar snowfall in November 2022.
Happy Birthday Les Paul
Les Paul would have been 105 today. I had to recognize that amazing man. Modern recording and the electric guitar would not be the same without Les Pauls innovations and inventions.
ean de La Fontaine was a French fabulist and one of the most widely read French poets of the 17th century. He is known above all for his Fables, which provided a model for subsequent fabulists across Europe and numerous alternative versions in France, as well as in French regional languages.[Wikipedia]

Neon Orange Soloist
I decided to get a COVID test since Julie is positive and I sort of had a cough on our way back from Myrtle Beach. Since I have not yet seen my new doctor I had to call my old doctor's office to get a test ordered. Since my doctor left the practice I had Julie's doctor order a test for me. I was able to get scheduled for 1:30pm.
The testing station was busy today and the lines were long. I was given the opportunity to have a nasal swab and give a saliva sample so I opted to do both. The girl that swabbed me said, "now, it's not 'punch the nurse day' and you seem pretty smart; I bet you could be President. Well, I guess you don't have to be too smart to be President!" I assured her that I knew what to expect (since Julie had swabbed me before) and I did what Julie suggested: rest my head against the headrest of the car, then breath in while she inserts the swab. This nurse did it much more gentle than Julie did! When that was done I had to drive over to the saliva station. I tried and tried to generate enough clear saliva for the test but I don't think I gave them enough.
Part of the literature they handed me at the test included a postcard about a clinical trial for people that test positive for COVID-19. I will see if Julie wants to participate.
The Ribber
We headed home today and Julie liked my suggestion of planning our trip so we could stop at the Scioto Ribber on our way home.
We got home around a quarter to Midnight.
Everlasting Gaze
I am home and in the midst of changing clothes while watching the dogs in the back yard.
There was supposed to be a 4 Finger Shot rehearsal tonight but James canceled early stating he was sick. Julie and I had driven separately due to the rehearsal so I just hung around the house until she got home and edited the videos from Sunday's jam.
Redo
Since our recording session yesterday was basically a disaster, TC and I got together today to get our part of the Retrospective down. It went much smoother but we both had the jitters at different times. First it was TC that couldn't form thoughts or get words out. But it turned out I had never pressed the record button so the conversation we had for over an hour was not recorded! After I realized that and started the recorder for real it was me that couldn't formulate complete thoughts or speak clearly! Regardless, we got it done and have plenty to work with.
Before going to TC's I met Todd Greer at Savor Pint for a couple beers, lunch, and discussion. He wants me to join his project. He asked me what it was I wanted to do. I couldn't answer him. That was a profound realization on my part. What DO I want to do? I am afraid that I am too busy and disinterested in what he is doing to join his band. He didn't want an answer just then but I think that is what it is going to be.
I tried running the new water line for the refrigerator. 10' is plenty of distance but I can't get the connection nut through the hole in the floor. Either I need to widen the hole or come up with a new solution. Ken said a copper line would go through that hole no problem. So, I will return the stainless steel line and get a copper line.
Finally, I took the Schecter PT from the 11 gauge strings to the 9 gauge strings. I may end up making that my main Distorted Silence guitar.
And, it was 33 years ago today that my Dad died. I think of him every day.
Married Again
I saw Dr. Butler this morning and he did crown preparation on tooth number 19. Since I took the whole day off I went to get our rings from Jared. Then I picked up Zoup! for lunch since my mouth was numb.
Hanging Acoustics
I put up three more hooks to hang my acoustic guitars today.
I also hung the guitar picture that Kristen & Michele gave me for my birthday. It is a multi-panel photo of what looks like a Les Paul hollow body (Les Paul Supreme?). I centered the middle of the picture in the room and put all the other panels flush together. I think the picture will look better with a little space between the panels.
Today is Shay's 27th birthday. We dropped off gifts for him at Mother Mary's. He was out riding on roller blades that I assume Mother Mary got him for his birthday.
Re-String
Since Jason is coming over Sunday and we agreed to play Strats through our Fender Tweed amps it was time to restring Felix The Strat and get reacclimated.
Did I lose another Friday?
Haircut Monday
Julie cut my hair, trimmed my beard, and trimmed my body. Then we went to Winking Lizard for a late lunch.
After the rain had ended, I saw this bright sunset shine upon the ground below.

Constructive feedback is welcome and appreciated.
The new pickups installed on the old pickguard with the protective film removed. I will play this tomorrow night at the gig.
Father’s Day 2020
Madison and I went to BW-3 (Buffalo Wild Wings) on Bethel Rd for Father's Day. We ate well and drank. Then we went back to my house and drank some more!
Then I met Ric and Rusty at Classics for a few pitchers of Miller Lite. I had a meatball sub, too.
Intense rain for days has created one very BIG puddle! Think you can jump it? LOL!!!

The guitar is equipped with three Duncan Designed HR-101 "Hotrail" pickups. I will replace them with genuine Duncan Hotrails eventually.
Haircut
Julie cut my hair this morning. She is silly.
I have my first gig of 2018 (with Shakin' and Stirred) tonight so she doesn't want me looking terrible.
I went into work late this morning because...
Bass in Blue
Tonight I had a gig with the Alan Carl Band! I sort of thought Alan gave up on me and then he hit me up earlier this week about doing the gig Friday. I had a cram all day to learn a few songs and was working with Logan all day long on the set list.
I also talked to Jerome about getting 4 Finger Shot in Fenders.
The GTI is still not done so I will hold on to the Malibu all weekend.
Deepak and I had a quick happy hour after work.
