Dragon Mask

We finally used the facial masks Shay gave us for Christmas. They were fun!

Otherwise we just hung around the house all day. I screwed up and took a sick day today thinking my doctor appointment was this morning but it was actually yesterday...and rescheduled.

Seeing The Light

I am woodshedding the new songs and a few songs I have not played in over 2 months. Tomorrow is Distorted Silence rehearsal with Josh on drums since Jim has CF and will not be able to rehearse or perform for at least the rest of June.

Sunlight was streaming through the well window and caught me right in the eyes!

Today was the music industry initiated "Blackout Tuesday" and I participated on Instagram. The request was to post a blank black picture with the hastags #TheShowMustPaused and #BlackoutTuesday. The idea was to focus attention on family and community and not your "business". I'm not really sure who was behind it but I played along. I couldn't resist posting a picture of all my black guitars later in the day though.

Julie had been craving a Reuben sandwich since we saw some special on a food channel so we ordered a couple from Neighbor's Deli in Upper Arlington. They were pretty good.

Gigging

Tonight 1 Bad Mother played Midway Tap. It was my first night on guitar with the band. Grant is unable to perform live due to having a heart condition that landed him in the hospital. Doctors say he should not be in public until the Coronavirus stuff blows over. Shawn Pruden filled in on bass and Sara McKeown sang a few songs. It went fairly well. Looks like I will be playing guitar for the next couple gigs at least.

My Mom and I went to lunch at Old Dog Alehouse for my upcoming birthday. She gave me a Bob Evans t-shirt and a card of my baby foot prints from when I was born! The card has my footprints in blue ink plus the details of my birth! That was the best gift she could have given me.

At the Vet

Today we took Dharma to our veterinarian for her first visit. She was an angel! She is so chill. We had a long wait because we got there early.

Earlier in the day Julie and I had eye doctor appointments. She said her vision was much worse than last year. My vision only slightly changed. Dr. Bosner gave me some contacts to try; if they work for Saturday's gig I might go back in and get a longer supply, otherwise I may be done with contacts.

Also, I finished episode 42 of the Moving Music podcast this morning and posted it. Libsyn was having some posting/sharing issues so it was not immediately available like normal. I noticed it was available when I was at the eye doctor and TC handled sharing it on Facebook. This was Will Newsome's second interview with Moving Music.

The clear, blue afternoon sky, coupled with the sparsely populated road at that time, combined to create a still and peaceful atmosphere.

Schecter PT

I am trying my Schecter PT at rehearsal tonight. Since we are no longer tuning guitars to Drop-C# I am able to put my usual strings (Ernie Ball Super Slinky .009-.042) on it and tune it to Eb standard. It worked out pretty well. It will take some getting used to but it is between this guitar and the Charvel to become my main guitar in Distorted Silence.

I stopped at Guitar Center before rehearsal because I wanted to get some dedicated 10' cables for rehearsal. I have been wanting a clean boost for the Orange since I have joined the band and remembered that I could easily get a boost with a Graphic EQ pedal. The Boss GE-7 is $120 new so I went for it. Well, they only had the display model in stock so the guy worked a deal for me: The pedal and a 2-year extended warranty (waste of money) at regular price and the 3 $17 cables for $0.03. Still cheaper than if I bought all of those items separately. But no box or manual for the GE-7.

Reflection

Julie and I went to The Blarney Stone for lunch. She wanted a Reuben. Patty McGown was working. This was probably the third time I have been to The Blarney Stone but the first time I have used their bathroom.

Rehearsal

First rehearsal of 2018. Shakin' and Stirred at the drummer's house. Getting ready for our gig this Friday!

Today was a Steak Day for me. If I don't lose more than 2 lbs then I'm not doing a Steak Day again.

Masked In Public

We are leaving Lowe's after getting a gift card and a plant for Alec and Kristina. We took these gifts and Rooster's lunch to their new house in Marysville.

They have a lot of work ahead of them with that house!

We had Grandad's pizza for dinner.

Somebody To Shove

First rehearsal of 2020. First rehearsal of the new decade. We worked on "Somebody To Shove" by Soul Asylum. Great song!

Popcorn

Our podcast interview with Joe Viers today was canceled. I thought about moving my scheduled time off to Friday but decided to leave it and have a "me" day. I went to BW-3 for lunch then went to AMC 24 Lennox to see 1917. It was a phenomenal movie.

This afternoon was our last with one dog. Laruen and Ashley came by the house around 9pm and brought Karma for us. Harper showed a little bit of possessiveness but overall it was very smooth.

I really don't want two dogs. This is the first time I have had two dogs in my life (technically, maybe not but it feels like it). I am going to make the best of it.

Bleeding Rehearsal

I nearly missed rehearsal!

We were doing stuff around the house all day. TC called and asked if he and Barb could stop by since they were at Columbus Car Audio getting a remote starter installed. Of course they could stop by! I gave them the tour of the house and we were having a couple drinks when I got a Facebook message from Steve asking if I was coming to rehearsal. I totally forgot! I even remembered this morning that I had rehearsal tonight! So, I excused myself and went to practice.

I'm not sure at what point I damaged my right thumb knuckle.

Here I Go Again

Last rehearsal of 2019

Vet

I ended up taking a sick day today so I could take Julie to medical appointments and take Dharma to a veterinary appointment.

We had a late lunch at Atlas Tavern and Julie was not as happy with the "boneless wings" as she remembered from the last time.

The setting sun hiding in between clouds had produced this scene, a vivid, dark blue sky with a faint orange glow, with the vast ocean below.

3 Finger Shot

Doug is in town! That means we jam. Scott is out of town so that means I have to sing. All the wives were going to be there so I stopped by Ken's first and dropped off my gear then left to get Julie and brought her back. It was a good time.

Restring

I am clipping off the excess strings from the headstock of the Jeff Beck Signature Stratocaster. I reinstalled the bridge tonight. I took advantage of the bridge being off and removed the neck to get the neck and body dates. This is a super fresh guitar! The neck is dated 3/27/2019 and the body is dated 6/4/2019 and I took possession of the guitar 10/31/2019.

I worked from home today to stay with Julie since she was off. We finished the Meister's pizza all day long. We also removed the Sleep Number fixed base and set up the Reverie adjustable base. We need a different power cable for the Sleep Number pump unit. That is an item that is not carried in the stores so I had to call Sleep Number and order it. That took forever.

Celestion G12H Anniversary

Was this the stock speaker? Rob says it was stock on some early models.

As I looked forward into a window, this is the view that I saw.

A faint glimmer of the orange, setting sun tries to remain and make itself known, as the dark rain clouds slowly take over the skies.

Christmas in January

Today we had Christmas with Julie's side of the family. No drama and not as much Jack Daniels consumed! Everyone seemed to enjoy their gifts and we had City BBQ for lunch. It was a good day.

Distorted Tuesday

Hell Week continues with a Distorted Silence rehearsal today.

And a Borgata lunch day before Julie's Chiropractic appointment.
