Appetizers (muqabbilaat) at restaurant "7aretna" close to Baab Touma in the old city; Damascus, Syria.
Take some pie crust, cut it into pint glass rounds, plop them into muffin pans. Put in your mixture of chopped onions, egg, swiss cheese, salt, and milk. Bake it up good.
Mmm mmmm.

We like to flex our creativity in the kitchen! Whether it’s an artful presentation or a unique combination of flavors, many of our clients like to shake things up a little - but don’t worry, we don’t stray too far out there. You might be surprised by one of our dishes, but you’ll also be saying how good it was!
After the house concert, we served appetizers. Guests stayed, ate, visited, and enjoyed chatting with the musicians.

Host Farmers: Jason Salvo & Siri Erickson-Brown
Guest Chef: Rachel Yang: Joule, Revel & Trove; Seattle, WA
OITF first came to Local Roots 7yrs ago. Our guest chef Matt Dillon said his friends were starting a farm, so we put it on the tour schedule. On the day of the event, farmer Siri got up on the tractor & said, “I really don't know that much about farming.” It was charming & kinda cool to hear how she became inspired to learn about it. And now, Siri & Jason really know what they are doing! We will hear all about their progress, & Chef Rachel Yang will create an inventive Korean-French-Pacific Northwest feast from their hard-won harvest. OITF tour director Anna says Rachel is one of her favorite chefs in Seattle, & the people who select the James Beard Award nominees agree; Rachel is on the long list for Best Chef-Northwest this year.

Getting old sucks. All the joints in my right side are starting to ache (I have this terrible pain in all the diodes down my right side) and I keep forgetting to take ibuprofen which I'm not sure helps all that much anyway. Probably foot surgery in January for an arthritis-related bunion that only slightly responded to cortisone, provided HR gets off their asses and sets up my health insurance. In the mean time, ibuprofen and a sazerac will have to do.
