While whale watching in Alaska we came across this pack of harbor seals. I was fortunate to capture this individual looking right at me. His expression looked as if he feared what might be lurking below h surface. We saw a pack of orcas earlier in the day...

Cassowaries are very large flightless birds native to the tropical forests of New Guinea and northeastern Australia. Fallen fruit and fruit on low branches is the mainstay of their diet but they also eat fungi, snails, insects, frogs, snakes and other small animals.
The 2004 edition of the Guinness World Records lists the cassowary as the world's most dangerous bird. Adult Southern Cassowaries are 1.5 to 1.8 m (5 to 6 feet) tall, although some females may reach 2 m (6 feet 8 inches), and weigh about 70 kilograms (154 pounds). Their three-toed feet have sharp claws with the dagger-like middle claw 120 mm (5 inches) long. This claw is particularly dangerous since the Cassowary can use it to kill an enemy, disembowelling it with a single kick.
Normally they are very shy but when disturbed can lash out dangerously with their powerful legs and are capable of inflicting fatal injuries to an adult human. Usually, attacks are the result of provocation. They are considered to be one of the most dangerous animals to keep in zoos, based on the frequency and severity of injuries incurred by zookeepers.
This specimen was 'shot' whilst out on safari yesterday with neilalderney123 at the snake farm and show on the Bangkok Yai khlongs (canals).
I believe this is a female, which is lacking the black pouches of the male. Please don't be afraid to correct me. Florida, 2014
I've been taking a lot of photos lately, Finally seeing a little change in my work... hopefully for the better.
The hummers are numerous, ravenous and pugnacious. This one interrupted a fight with another bird and stopped by for a drink even though I was standing just a few feet away.
Heidi is standing on the mushroom rock formation at my childhood home in New Mexico. For years, I've been afraid it is on the verge of collapse and have avoided getting near it. But she walked right out. Today she will marry Jackson. Another display of fearlessness! :)

I'm concerned. (and also afraid)
My aunt of whom I lived with on and off as child, has had 4 heart surgeries. Her heart is bad, she has low blood pressure, she has diabetes, and the list goes on and on. She is only 61 and should have many many more years. I feel she is being cheated out what should be easier days but not the case for her.
God has granted us more years than the doctors ever gave her after her last surgery about 4 years ago. Her goal each day is to live each day to it's fullest because she might not be here tomorrow. (I understand we all face this)
It is unbelievable the cost of the medication and the small funds she must live on since she has been on disability for many years. (I just do not know how one is to survive)
I have been occupied with trying to get through my ordeal and now since Christmas she is continuing to not do do well. She went to the doctor the last week. There is nothing they can do for her -- basically, she has been told to remain calm. No stress on her heart.
I love her with all my heart and have tried to repay the kindness she gave me as a child.
I pray for God to be with her - relieve the pain that she is feeling and selfishly give us many many more years with her. She is a dear person to me. My Aunt Sue.

I am afraid of heights, but I had always wanted to, someday, fly to New York and visit the Twin Towers and to look up from the ground. September 11, 2001, wiped out that dream forever. I still remember that frightening morning like it just happened yesterday.
So, this morning, I stopped by the park and went under the half-staffed flagpole and look straight up the way I would have wanted to look up to the towers.
