A very common duck species found across the subcontinent usually in shallow lakes and ponds. These birds prefer marshy vegetation surrounded by clumps of trees or rice fields which they use for roosting during the nights and for nesting.

The birds are quite active at night, but during day time, they just rest on the banks of the lakes or small water bodies. On this occassion we saw around 15-20 of them on a roadside pond surrounded by tall grass. Several of them were sitting on this branch like thing and these two were displaying affection.

The front one was I think a male and he was gently nibbling on the neck of the other one which I assume is a female. Nibbling on the neck is a sign of affection in birds and while many birds display that, I have not seen it much in ducks. The nibbling continued for about 5-10 mins - though not continuously. The female was clearly enjoying it and was making it easier for the male to gently bite / nibble.

Le bruant zizi affectionne les milieux de types bocage, lui offrant de nombreux buissons . Il fréquente également les lisières de forêts et s'aventure jusque dans les parcs et jardins.- 2 photos voir en grand

- la femelle est beaucoup plus terne ( voir le mâle en photo précédente ), sa calotte et ventre sont beaucoup plus striés. La femelle construit généralement seule. C'est un entremêlement d'herbes sèches, de mousse et paille, dont l'intérieur est tapissé de matériaux plus doux. la ponte est constituées de 3 à 4 oeufs blanc grisâtres voir bleuâtre mouchetés de brun roux , qui sont couvés entre 11 à 13 jours par la femelle seule. Puis les 2 parents nourrissent les poussins encore 2 semaines avant qu'ils ne prennent leur premier envol. La saison de reproduction s'étale de mai à juillet . Durant cette période, cette espèce peut effectuer 2 à 3 pontes.

Barred Owls have personality. The are diurnal, which means we have some light to observe and photograph them. They have great calls. I particularly agree when the pair join in for a lively conversation. I was fortunate to catch this moment when they joined up on the branch and showed some affection for each other.

A pair of Silvereyes, winter back yard, New Zealand. Silvereyes (also known as Wax-eye and locally as Tauhou) when paired show great affection for each other, stroking and preening one another's feathers and cuddling together. Silvereyes are slightly smaller than a sparrow.

Cat hugs her kittens and licks them while they try to escape.

It's hard not to love a kitten, even if you're a cat. In general, most adult cats will tolerate, if not show affection for, any kitten -- especially their own.
