The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (Georgian: სვეტიცხოვლის საკათედრო ტაძარი); literally the Cathedral of the Living Pillar) is an Orthodox Christian cathedral located in the historic town of Mtskheta, Georgia, to the northwest of the Georgian capital Tbilisi. A masterpiece of the Early and High Middle Ages, Svetitskhoveli is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is currently the second largest church building in Georgia, after the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Known as the burial site of the claimed Christ's mantle, Svetitskhoveli has long been one of the principal Georgian Orthodox churches and is among the most venerated places of worship in the region. Throughout the centuries, the cathedral served as the burial place for kings. The present cross-in-square structure was completed between 1010 and 1029 by the medieval Georgian architect Konstantine Arsukisdze, although the site itself dates back to the early fourth century. The exterior archature of the cathedral is a well-preserved example of typical decorations of the 11th century.
Svetitskhoveli is considered an endangered cultural landmark; it has survived a variety of adversities, and many of its priceless frescoes have been lost due to being whitewashed by the Russian Imperial authorities. It is considered one of the four Great Cathedrals of the Georgian Orthodox world.

A beautiful almond blossom covered in rain springs forth after storms and calamity. I remember from watching Disney's "Mulan" when her father says to her "The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all." That quote has found a special place in my heart. Almond trees always bloom first.
There is always hope.
I may be well on my way to insanity but it's great when you have someone else just as crackers for company. Tonight, almost as soon as we arrived at this well known spot near Matlock in Derbyshire, it began to rain. Not just a little bit, it was a lot of the horizontal stuff. My camera, lenses, bag and myself are now drying out!

*
The legends are varied where various animals that are considered and used as amulets for good luck are related, one of them is the owl, a bird whose eyes are a symbol of intuition, wisdom and intelligence. Some use accessories with the figure of this winged, to invoke good luck.
According to the portal Soyesoterica.com, it is believed that having a chance encounter with an owl is an excellent sign of a good omen in every way, but fundamentally financially.
On the other hand, it is also said that owls are good protectors against obscurantism and ignorance, so it is not difficult to find the representation of the animal in objects such as talismans or ornaments that people carry and sometimes they can have in their residences.
From now on I wish all my friends that in the face of the adversity that characterized this year, we end it with wisdom and intelligence.
*

"Friendship makes prosperity more shining and lessens adversity by dividing and sharing it."
~ Cicero
(January 3, 106 BC – December 7, 43 BC)
When something wonderful happens to us, it may not seem real until we can tell our friends about it. Their happiness for us deepens and intensifies our pleasure.
When something bad happens to us, we search out our friends for comfort, understanding and assurance. Their sympathy eases our pain and gives us hope.
Knowing how much friendship means to us, how can we be better friends to others in their times of prosperity and adversity? I am going to try to be the best friend I can be to the people who bring so much into my life....beginning with some long overdue testimonials I need to write. I have procrastinated long enough!
Here's an interesting tidbit about rhododendrons: The world "Rhododendron" comes from the Greek words: rhodos, "rose", and dendron, "tree".
Oh.... one more thing.... has anybody had experience with Getty Images thru Flickr? They are interested in 14 of my photos.... and I'm not sure about all this... it's new to me! Please flickr mail me if you have any info regarding this.... Thanks!
Have a wonderful Tuesday, my dear friends! ♥

INNER DEMONS – JULIA BRENNAN
Here are my shoes
take them
I will walk barefoot and sure
I will lay footprints for you to follow through an open door
Here is my heart
take it
I will never be heartless or forget
I will always know goodness; provide you with a tête à tête
Here is my hand
take it
I can work with one hand tied behind my back
I can still touch the sun; provide the light you only think you lack
Here is my soul
take it
I will still know wrong from right
I will still shine my light on your darkest night
Here am I
take whatever you need most
I am here for you
I will help you through
Angels surround me
comfort me and dry my tears
warm me when the nights are cold
give me wings; let me unfold
let me conquer all my fears
Here I am … simply being … me
Take me in your arms
give me the courage to brave the storms
hold me; warm me; touch me with light
the precious light that all life brings
radiates throughout the world
and all of Heaven sings
and softly as my wings unfold
I am lost within this moment
forever young
and the only thing about me ever old
is my immortal soul

You’ll learn, as you get older, that rules are made to be broken. Be bold enough to live life on your terms, and never, ever apologize for it. Go against the grain, refuse to conform, take the road less traveled instead of the well-beaten path. Laugh in the face of adversity, and leap before you look. Dance as though EVERYBODY is watching. March to the beat of your own drummer. And stubbornly refuse to fit in. -

The Kirk of Holyroodhouse and Edinburgh Castle built in 1688 serves both Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle.A plaque on the front of the church bears witness to it having been built through a large bequest from a local merchant :
"In 1688 King James VII ordained that the Mortification of Thos. Moodie, granted in 1649 to build a Church, should be applied to the erection of this structure" ....
" O lord Jesus Christ, who art first and last.

As you go on this world… always believe in your dreams. Keep looking forward to the future…to all what you might be. Don't let old mistakes or misfortunes hold you down; learn from them, forgive yourself…or others…and move on. Don't be bothered or discouraged by adversity. Instead, meet it as a challenge. Empowered by the courage it takes you to overcome obstacles. Learn things. Learn something new every day.

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. ~ Anne Bradstreet

In these days where the world we knew has been stopped by an unknown virus, where uncertainty, pain and fear devastate our lives, where we feel insignificant in the face of adversity, it`s necessary to say thank the work of those who fight for us so that the wheel of life keep turning.

Description
The resilience witnessed among communities in the face of challenging and unprecedented times is paralleled among the honey bee. Honey bee colonies are primary composed of worker bees whose greatest measure of resilience is maintaining hive temperature throughout the cold winter months. This is achieved by adapting worker behaviour to use energy from stored honey to generate body heat within a tight hive cluster. The challenge of keeping the hive warm is met by a colony level response – much like the collaborative community level response that is mounted in the face of adversity.
The installation is designed with a hexagonal structure reminiscent of a honey bee colony, and it highlights the colour variation of honey, which is the result of diverse floral resources. Individuals are welcomed to experience the visual diversity of a honey bee hive and work together to form a collaborative community level hive cluster. An unfortunate name for the title of a much photographed image but if you can be bothered to read on then hopefully all will become clear.
I came here to photograph this tree as many others do. If it's your first visit, as it was mine then I don't think you are prepared for this location offering much more than just this one image. If you have the conditions I guarantee you will have a months worth of keepers. It's a horseshoe shaped bay, with a small island in the distance, reeds on the shoreline, treelined on both sides and an oasis of tranquility.
I've followed a springer spaniel on Facebook for over 5 years, called Max. The FB page is called 'Max Out in the Lake District' and across platforms his following extended to 60k+. Over the last year you can see he had been going downhill. He was 14 after all and for a pedigree springer that's quite an old age. He had a couple of seizures about 3 weeks ago and it was obvious his time was coming to an end.
Kerry, his owner had done live feeds every morning during lockdown of his morning walks/permitted exercise. Just seeing them out in the lakes, which I was missing like crazy was the highlight of my day.
These continued when we were allowed out to play, with many meetups to raise money for Keswick Mountain Rescue and the PDSA. Throw in how Max became Kerry's, how he was the reason that Kerry overcame depression after an awful accident, and some marvellous photography by his wife and it was a potent mix for any dog lover. Over the years Max was joined by Paddy and Harry, his two adoring younger brothers. Both springers.
For any dog lover you couldn't fail to be touched by the three of them and by the story of Max. It led to a number one best selling book called 'Max the Miracle Dog,' which I can highly recommend. It will have you in tears, but in a good way.
Max was put to sleep in his beloved Manesty Woods at the southern end of Derwentwater about a week ago. It was heartbreaking reading about it but I have nothing but admiration for how Kerry has handled it. There is a lot to be said for having such stoicism in the face of adversity, and Kerry has shown it in spades.
After I left here and with it still early, I visited the statue dedicated to Max and his brothers that is a permanent fixture in Hope Park to pay my respects. The work and amount of money they have raised for the PDSA is nothing short of remarkable and there is a donation box next to the plinth and statue.
Anyway, the image. You either need to be 7'ft 4"or make the short climb and have a right leg like Chris Hoy.
It's only about 4ft up some rocks that stick out with an overhanging tree that's in the shot unless you lean outwards. All sounds relatively simple so far until you realise a tripod is out of the question and you have to adjust your settings accordingly to hand hold.
There is one rock that sticks out slightly, but it is as slippy as anything and to make matters worse to ensure the branch remains above the top of Blencathra and to get Otterbield Island in the right place aesthetically you are dangling out on this slippy rock, hand holding and also slightly crouching with all your weight on your right thigh, hence the Chris Hoy reference! It's not easy and nigh on impossible to focus stack, unless of course you happen to play for the LA Lakers.!
I was listening to Black whilst driving here. It's a song about loss and dark clouds, fear and the hopelessness of the unknown, and whilst feeling fitting at the loss of a dog that has touched thousands of people worldwide, my mind was in photoshop selection mode and decided that if I clicked the 'Invert' box then instead of sadness, I'd have happiness:) So in my mind I clicked the invert box and after the short walk down to Otterbield Bay, that is exactly what I felt.

Creative close-up framing of a Gazania rigens, sometimes called 'treasure flower'.
With its vibrant and fiery hues, this flower is a true symbol of enthusiasm, passion, and creativity.
Gazania stands tall and proud, inviting us to embrace the warmth and energy it exudes. Whether adorning a garden or brightening up floral arrangements, its vibrant petals ignite a sense of joy and inspiration.
But this alluring flower is not just visually stunning; it carries deep cultural and historical significance as well. From ancient mythology to modern-day interpretations, Gazania has been celebrated for its ability to thrive in harsh conditions. It has become a symbol of resilience and perseverance, reminding us that even in the face of adversity, beauty can bloom.
A message of creativity and inspiration.

It is not forbidden to have fun in adversity! We can sing, joke, even listen to Gregorian chant (as long as we shed a tear for those in misery).
Just a few leaves on this oak tree are still there finishing winter season, resisting cold, wind, fungi attacks, and the rejection of its own father tree. Our world is full of people who resist adversity constantly too....in honor of them.
This enormous bronze statue, created by sculptor Igor Mitoraj is located in the Boboli Garden in Florence, Italy. I feel it represents strength, fragility while having persistence in the face of adversity. Although there were more conventional pieces of art placed throughout the gardens, this one piece really speaks to my heart.
